Not true. As long as they don't freeze they are viable. I set Maran eggs a few years ago that a friend had in her fridge for over a week. That was the very first 100% hatch I ever had. I have also set refridgerated turkey eggs and they did well too. I know a few that have set brown eggs from stores where they advertise 'freerange eggs' and had some hatch.

REALLY?? Sweet!! I was wondering how to "stock up" if I kept them in the house but out of the fridge. Don't you have to rotate them and they're only good for a few days outside of refrigeration?? See, again...I am still such a "green egg" when it comes to chickens. Thank you for all of your help!!
Hmm...maybe I will have to drive out to BHep's place and have her experiment with some of my eggs to see just who is doing all the fertilizing!!

I'm sure we'd end up with a few lav orps and perhaps a weird orpington/cochin combination....or weirder still the orpington/maran/EE combo!!

What say you BHep?? Want to take a few dozen eggs out of my fridge and see if any hatch for you?!? You could sell all the biddies at the WCA!!

Wait...does that mean I am enabling you or you're enabling me?? HMM....

I think my lavender orpington rooster is broken. I've had him for a month and he's not interersted in my hens. He's beautiful and friendly so I'm going to keep him, but I need a younger rooster I think.

He is probably working on the sly....... I have an old Silkie roos....I never see him move except to eat...yet every egg is fertile.

I don't put eggs in the frig to keep anymore. As long as you don't wash the bloom off the egg you have 10-14 days to set or 3-6 weeks to eat. The amount of time to eat depends on the temps in the house. I don't even turn the eggs I am saving for setting anymore. I used to keep an old turner from a styrobator running in the basement for eggs I was saving to set. Found there is no difference in those turned and those that I let sit in a carton on my desk for almost 2 weeks. If the parent stock is healthy, the eggs are good.
