Yay! My chicks are hatching! Boo! They aren't really ameracaunas! Apparently the person I got them from had a rogue Bcm rooster around the ameracauna hens. Not thrilled, but now I have lots of fluffy faced fuzzy legged chicks! Still have eggs in the incubator that haven't hatched yet, I'll post pics when they are all out! :D

Good Morning..........

No WCA for me today. I WILL be going next Sunday.

VERY productive Sat. Moved the peacocks out to their new pen. Cleaned coops and moved and shuffled chickens all around.
Today...I make the auction list. I have 6 mixed hens to go for sure. All black colored, 3 have started laying already and lots of chicks and 3 ducklings. Want to know more, PM me before next Sat.

Good Sunday Morning. I got to sleep in today... the little one and the dh are gone for 5 days together... all alone. I was sooooo tempted yesterday to make a trip to Rocky Point and get myself 2 or 3 baby silkies, since I had my brooder all complete(see my avatar pic). I kept resisting and then to stop thinking about it I dusted, vaccumed, and mopped the floor. Well the rain canceled my plans to go outside to rake leaves.

. So now I keep thinking I can take the 1 1/2 drive to checkout the WCA. We planned on going April 22 the day before the other babies are suppose to arrive. I was even researching the WCA... found one video and their facebook site (liked it).

On another note (some of whick stopped me from getting a few silk chicks) was that I did not have my Ecoglow50. Yes I ordered one, was not going to since this is my VERY first batch of babies and I want to see how much we love it and if we will keep pursuing chickens and they are costly. Well I changed my mind quickly after Friday 6 o'clock local news. They were reporting about a house fire, but I was not paying much attention. Then they showed the familys chicken coop, so I looked up immediately. They said it was the only thing that did not burn. The family was planning on raising chickens for their eggs and this is how the fire started. I was like WHAT????

. Oh no... dont let DH hear. Turns out the cat knocked over the heat lamp they had for their babies and it started the fire, poor chickies did not survive. The house was destroyed. That night I got on the computer and ordered one. With me running to town I was to scared after that story. I had to get the Ecoglow50 with 26 babies coming and a trip to WCA in 5 weeks. I figured the $140 shelled out is worth the peace of knowing my house will not burn down while gone. It was not in the budget, but I will find away to make it fit.

To those going to the WCA cant wait to hear what they had. I really am tempted to go, but then I would want to buy, and I can not keep up with those auctioneers and the price so I would end up paying $50 for one silkie or something. I was curious do they every have small coops go for sale? Do they sell heat lamps because I have one of those that needs to be sold or traded.

http://www.premier1supplies.com/det...=target-email&utm_campaign=2012-01-25#reviews I bought my heat lamps from Premier1 and they are awesome,...

Hubby got home too late yesterday from his business trip to build a cage for a turkey to take to WCA, so we'll postpone until next week. But it should be warm enough to bring both boys next week, in the pickup instead of my Element! I daresay hubby and I will drive two vehicles so he can leave earlier, as he doesn't wait well. But I'll be parking my butt somewhere for the whole thing, if I can manage it. I will NOT be bringing anything home, though. Well, unless it's eggs. Orpington eggs. Maybe English Orpington eggs.

Yeah. I'll chisel that in stone this week. No bringing chickens home. Period.

Good luck with that

Reasons why I'm staying away from all things chicken until we can get rid of our roos. I think there are 3 RIR roo's, so if any one needs one, I'm your gal! I'm more and more confused by my Barred Rocks, I thought they were one roo and one hen, they are looking the same now....

Wanted to show you my small brooder set up, I like to keep a few like this. The bulb is a 75 watt night glow reptile bulb from the pet store, sometimes I use the 75 watt red day glow (but it is more $$, not sure why??), and no one panic, there are lots of holes on the lid and sides, the pic only shows the front holes. I am paranoid myself about heat lamps and won't use a bulb over 100 watts at all in the house, LOL, for anything.

Good morning!

Went out to feed this morning, and found our FIRST EGG from our new Pheasant trio!!! HOORAY! Now gotta start doing my research on incubating them, and hope for more!

The BW Quail chicks are a week old and doing great! Time to move to the outside brooder! Hubby is going to clean it out today.

Got some Swedish Flower hen eggs on Friday, and started up the incubator, along with some Golden and Silver Sebrights

Anyone want an adult male Guinea or two? We need to scale down to less boys....it's a little hectic.
