Hello, I am so enjoying your Post. So sorry to hear about your missing Girls. I think I shared this on here but in case I didn't I had a Bantam Rooster that flew the Coup before he had made it his home but nearly four weeks later he came back and is still in there. So, I'm hoping that is the case for you.
I had a Bear attack the other night, he about tore down the door to the Coup, he got in and got the food but did not harm the Chickens, thank God. My son came and re-enforced the door and the Bear came back last night but didn't get in. It could have been what my son did or....it could have been because I sprayed Ammonia all around the door at a height the Chicks could not reach. Will post a couple pictures of the damage. Darn, did two of the same but what I wanted to post the VERY FIRST EGG on got on that same morning. It was a Bantam which I have two of those girls:>) I'm excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After three weeks I gave up hope but then alas he came back the next week and is in the Coup now. I have two of six different kinds and the Bantam is the only Roo I got cause he is not too loud:>)

He did not get in for one of those two reasons, Yeah! And, in spite of my upset over the break in God gave me a blessing by finding my first Egg! And, it was from the Bantam, LOL. Here are some Pix.

Thank goodness it didn't get to your chickens, The bear we had visit us a while back hasn't been back since my dh shot off the shot gun not at him but to scare him off must have worked.

I am getting a RIR rooster and 5 barred rock hens......so I think ill keep it under 10 per rooster.

X2 on the RIR...then tend to get aggressive. If you are looking to make sex links ( meaning you can sex them at birth) You can put any of these roosters over the BR hens.. Black Australorp, Black Langshan, Mottled Java, Black Andalusian, Black Minorca. If you want to make sex linked Olive Eggers...use a black Ameraucana.

Is the gold commet the same as my RIR & RIW ???
