will see what happens AB
laughs, maybe you won't see what happens...... My eyes have gotten so bad in the last couple of years.. On the camera's. I do miss having a hard copy or the ole 3x4 pictures. It's hard to frame a picture now on a puter. There so big and bulky on the walls, plus having to buy a new monitor afterwards gets expensive....

Good luck on your 40 eggs. mmm, Now where will you put those new biddies if you get a good hatch??? That's my problem. I would have to build another coop, I know my cats and dogs are getting stringed out as it is watching the chickens I have free ranging as it is. They be good watch animals.

From the sounds of it, Beth had a good day at the WCA. Do you hatch all them eggs as a business or part of the chicken math????? I know alot seem to go to friends and all but you seem to have hundreds of eggs always going.... That is why if and when I get a bator, it will be a smaller one, other wise the chicken math would bankrupt me... I can only eat, give away or keep so many. (I need more property and old wood, tin and MONEY!!!!!!!!) No place around here really to sell them without a long, long drive... I guess the local Mennonites (sic) might be interested... But I do love my chickens and other animals....

Oh Lawd, I'm rambling again. sheesh

Good Morning, Happy People!

I ordered the rest of the birds I wanted yesterday, so between them and what's already been ordered for spring, I will be done on my restocking. What a shame! Finding and buying new birds over the last three months has been a blast! I'm sure I have more breeds coming than I'll end up wanting to keep, too. It was just my opportunity to try out different breeds. But it'll sure be fun testing them out!

Hubby brought in his new bike and trailer yesterday. The friend he bought them from drove them over. When I saw they were here I went out with the dogs. Halfway to the shop, little Levi saw the strange truck and stopped. His hair stood up, and he barked at it! Nine weeks old, and he's spotting what doesn't belong and reacting to it. Good puppy.

Have a great day!

Good Monday Morning everyone!! It's a blustery start to the morning, but I do love the look of a frosted meadow out back!!
Chickens, ducks and guineas are growing well. I am still on the hunt for a pair of Cochin ladies to be my favorite pets - I mean to be my incubators/mommas!!

I have a non-chicken question, but since AB keeps talking about age...I was hoping I might "pick the brains" of some of the older (I prefer to use the term seasoned) folks here. Mary - you stay out of this...I've already gotten YOUR answer!!

LOL. We ordered part of a cow and, well it came with things like liver, bones and tallow. ANY idea what kind of recipes I could use either for? None of us have EVER had liver (I don't even know HOW to cook it) so I am at a loss of what to do. At least with the bones, I know I can make broth and I think you can render lard from the tallow (which would be good seasoning for my cast iron skillets)...but liver?? Does anyone have any ideas? I am ashamed to admit that I am a city girl TRYING desperately to make it as a country girl, and so far...I have not succeeded!! I thank you all in advance!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Tallow from beef fat, lard from pig fat. And yes, good soup bones. You might want to google recipes for liver. If you've never had it, you might be put off by the texture, so start small. If you decide the texture is not for you, then chop it up and add it to your soup stock. No use to waste the nutrients! You can can or freeze soup stock. If you roast the bones first, the flavor of your stock is great!

I think all the stress is going away with finally getting everyone moved out of my house. I guess you could say the house is slowly becoming a home! Everyone is "supposed" to be out Feb 1st. We started pulling up some carpet (they told us the entire house is hardwood floors) and to my surprise it is in very good condition. It looks a million times better than the the 1960's harvest gold carpet that was there. alot more work to do to get the baby room set up but it's coming along!
