Love the picture Hollow, gonna have to get the kiddos over for a play date

:welcome  to all new flockers
Yes! Reilly actually played with the kids that visited today! They were petting Levi, and Levi seemed to be enjoying it, so he joined them! Remember how he's always been more shy of kids? Levi will teach him!

We'll need to find a good date. NOT a rainy one!

Scottcaddy, did you get chased down by a cow or something?

YES, before I learned how to deal with a large and I'm in Charge BOSS cow! It was something to see

to hear my Granddad tell the story, he thought it was way funnier than I did

at the time. Now I can see the humor, and the need to do what he did.

Yeah Scott, I remember being trapped between a cow and the wall when she decided to lean on me when I was milking her! I also remember being barefoot and having one of them step on my foot, high up on the arch, and then sllloooowwwwly pivot on that foot. I think she was pivoting to get away from the screaming noise in her ear.....

Still, I love cows. But they are a lot of mess and a lot of work. I wouldn't recommend them as a starting milk animal for someone new to homesteading. They're more something to grow into. My opinion, of course, and YMMV.

No, not me, but one of my uncles when he was milking the cows as a youngester. Grandpa always told that story when somebody would ***** about a nasty tail getting them in /on the face.

Good early morning folks!!
Long/rough night last night for the youngest; however, this mama enjoyed her cuddle session even at the expense of some quality sleep!!

Thank you Hollow & others for your input on the cow situation. My grandparents use to raise cows, my daddy worked on their farm and I too have heard wonderful stories about all the things you can do! If we could afford it, we would go with miniature jersey cows, but the price tag and associated health problems have us scared a bit!! We are still probably a year away from deciding on what animal we'll get. We chose the cow only because of their ease in raising in comparison to sheep (the bonus is we know a bunch of people from church who raise cattle on a large scale & have offered to help/mentor - even teaching us how to hand milk...WOOT!!) Before we do anything, we always research!! This spring the girls and I are going out to one of the farms to see how "things are done" and have an introductory lesson. Who knows, I may be scarred/scared for life and stick to chickens!!
