Yeah... I am thinking they would snatch a chicken up in a second! We are looking in to alternatives so that we can let them all be in the yard together. Here soon we are going to fence in our yard, and plan to free range the chickens. I would like to be able to let the dogs out as well. One of our neighbors just got a new puppy and I am thinking it is a pit, it is going to be a large dog -- and I will not have it in my yard preying on my little yappers or peckers! Gotta keep em all safe!

DISCLAIMER: I have NOTHING against pitbull dogs. They too can be very sweet dogs :) I am a pet LOVER, no doubt!
Best of luck to you.
We had a black lab beagle mix who was around the chickens all the time and they were fine. Then one day out of nowhere he just grabbed up one of my Americaunas and broke her neck. Didn't eat her or break skin or anything, just grabbed her and shook his head and her neck snapped. The dog got a new home.... he was only here like 4 months at the time he was a present for my son who begged for a dog and then never played with him and my husband was at his end with the dog chewing everything. I worked hard finding a good home, so hopefully the people take care of him like I hoped. No more dogs for me, sticking with chickens and cats :)

So all of you with far more chicken experience than me, want to venture a guess on what this little cutie is???
It's my favorite out of the hatch and it was from the barnyard mystery eggs we put in there.

Black with white on the wings and a white head. The beak is black and white. The legs are clean and 4 toes. The legs are mostly flesh colored, but there's a little bit of dark coloring up at the very top of them. No coloring down the front. The egg it hatched from was white or cream colored. No clue about the dad. It has a little poof on the top, so thinking it has some Polish in it???

Haha I have no idea, any guesses welcome :)

No hose or anything. Just the PVC pipe with a 'elbow' attached to the bucket. He did put something on the outside of the bucket around the PVC pipe to seal it so it wouldn't leak. He just put a cap on the other end of the pipe.

Hope it works for you, let me know

YES! Thanks SO MUCH! We will be doing this, this weekend - along with a 3" Clear PVC Pipe feeder with a cap on the top - GREAT idea as well!

Any reason you're wanting clear? Just from my experience the clear will allow algae to grow.

Ms SB  how do you keep the pvc pipe from cracking in winter?

I actually haven't used it through the winter yet. I'm going to add a birdbath heater to it which will hopefully keep it from freezing.. But even if I have to replace it I will continue to use it because it's just so darn convenient!! This is honestly my fav waterer and believe me my poor DH has built/made several lol
