I'm in the process of building a small run for my girls. We have a catawba tractor and I'm tired of moving it and I'm tired of the dogs getting in and eating their food (then having tummy issues in the house - blech). I'm waiting for the temperature to get up to 40F - the minimum temp for the stain I'm using ... tick tock

My coop went unpainted/ stained for years. I only painted it because I got a bunch of free paint. Of course it was different colors of paint, which I mixed into two buckets and ended up with Pepto pink and a tealish blue.. Not my preferred colors, but hey it was free and it works!

I got a really good deal on some pastel green and painted one of my coops with it. It was a bit shocking at first, but since its weathered, I like it. I'm going to paint the other coop the same color next year when I have to take it apart to replace the chicken wire.

But if I didn't have any paint, the coops would be just fine without it. I made them from salt treated lumber, so they'll last for a good long time.

I wanted it to look pretty

The tractor itself is just weathered wood (I'll do it next), but since I'm building the run itself, I wanted it to be a slate-green. It's actually called Sagebrush. I got two coats on today and will do one more tomorrow before starting with the hardwire cloth.

Ya'll are making me think about painting the wooden posts on my run now. Projects!

Meat grinder attachment for my kitchenaid mixer arrived today, so hoping the turkeys get done tomorrow!


I have an injured bunny, not sure what to do for him. He's not acting like himself, and he's holding up his one back leg when he hops, not letting it touch the ground. Checked him real good-- no signs of a fight or scratches or anything. Checked the paw real good to see if something cut it/got stuck in it and it looks clear. Felt his hip joints next to each other to see if something was broken or out of place. Obviously I'm not a vet, but they both felt the same. I have a big dog crate (but no dog anymore) so I brought that in the house and filled it with some pine bedding and put him in it. Got a water bottle and some celery stalks (celery is his favorite), but he hasn't touched it, he's just laying there. Really getting worried about him, he's not one that will lay still to be held or even let you pick him, so something's definitely bothering him.

Any suggestions on things I can do to help him?

Tammy, I looked on TSC after i wrote you and found that they have some on line. Will look again to see what the temp range is on them. Thanks for the info and help.

Good morning folks

I am debating a road trip to Pa. next week or the week
after for some birds that have been offered to me.
I really like the birds and the price is great but I am not
thrilled at the thought of driving to the "great white north"
during the holidays. Between traffic, weather and road
conditions I'm just so sure I will get the birds........and
I don't like shipping birds so that is out. Thinking it through.

In response to dutchbunny83. Rabbits do bruise themselves sometimes . I would recommend to leave a little guy in a cage. Ribbits are very messy putting them in a dog box can be very frastrating . Stuff like cabbage, celery, carrots raw grass very often upset bunnies stomachs . My suggestion is to grow you own fodder . It's cheap, and rabbits love it.
