Has anyone ever sent a fowl in for necropsy? If so where/who did you use and can you remember the cost associated with it?
We have lost 2 ducks in a month and a half. Both were approx 3 years old. The first one was showed no signs of illness. One morning I let everyone out and she didn't come out. She was huddled in a corner making no attempts to leave. I took her inside ran her a warm bath thinking she was having a hard time passing an egg (which she had never had problems with before). I put her in and was holding her in my hand and she passed. Tonight our second one passed. This one lived inside as she had always been unsteady on her feet. She was a crested and had balance issues from day one. She was given brewers yeast and calcium supplements daily in her feed. She started losing her feathers around monday, like she was going through a hard molt. She was active and begging for treats, today she could hardly hold her head up to eat. I gave her anything I could think of to help. She loved canned cat food and it had always helped keep meat on her bones, she ate a few green beans this morning and by evening she refused all food. I gave her pedialyte, tried ensure, and probiotic yogurt. As a last ditch effort I got activated charcoal to try but she passed before I got back with it.
Any clues as to what is going on? We have tested our water so we know there is nothing in it. I am at a loss.
