and BHep or HT tell me how ya'll candle. The last time I did was on some Muscovy eggs and they are so thick, you just about need a hammer to open them didn't see nothing. Just in case my 2 last broodys are sitting on 5 Brahma eggs, the little bantam egg has pipped but nothing on the other 5 B eggs, so would like to candle tonight and make sure they are viable. I know your not suppose to do the float test before hatch date but I did one yesterday made sure no cracks or pips and only one sunk tossed it the other 5 including the bantam egg just floated on top with small portion out of water which means good right? and now bantam egg is pipped so just want to make sure these other eggs are living. today is day 21 by my calculations. thanks.

ML- Never done the float test so I have no clue right or wrong??

However for candling, do you have an actual candler or just a flash light? I use a real egg candler, in a dark place just put the light on the fat end of the egg, you should be able to see a large dark area that takes up most of the egg and it should make some sort of movement, even if it's just a tiny movement as they start to get cramped at the end. If it's clear/yellow then they are duds. Crossing my fingers for you.

Thank you so much for all the photos..I showed my mother and she thinks the English are adorable...she said, "Oh, can you get a big, fat, fluffy one for me to play with when I visit?"

I said, "Sure, go to England and bring me back a gold laced one!!"

You can also put your flash light in a box facing up, cut a hole in the box where the flash light faces about the size of a nickel and place the egg on it and be able to see inside. Just another idea.

ML I use a maglite flashlight & a dark room. For my broodies, I just go out at night, saves me a pecked hand too.

You should be able to see veins and movement... If the egg is clear, you will know. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Enjoy your vist with your mom Ruthann.....
