Ohhh okay. Yeah I guess the little chickies would fall right out.
CSB had it right.... I meant you can only use "cardboard" for chicks, you can certainly use a crate if they won't get out. You cannot put adults in cardboard. They could suffocate. Lately people have been coming up with very creative chick containers. Buckets, baskets, plastics jugs etc... with wire covering the tops/or for jugs, a section cut out replaced with wire.
I have been at the birth of many many kittens over the years. you are correct, she probably won't use the box, unless it is in a very quiet, dark place. And after she delivers, she may move them if she is disturbed very much. BTW, cats gestate for 63 days.Yeah, about the Monday do-over..... I need one!!!
DS woke up this morning with Pink-eye... nothing better than your kid walking up to you in the morning and he's trying to explain to you how his eye was stuck shut and how he opened it.So I will be cleaning EVERYTHING today. Yay.![]()

I'm on kitten watch, too. My cat looks like she's about to pop.
This is pretty frustrating for me. I've had broodies hatch eggs, but atleast you know where they are going to hatch. I'm pretty freaked out about where (and when) she may decide to birth-- she has a box set up and ready for her, but I doubt she will want to use it. I just know she'll deliver when I'm not here. This is also her first litter of kittens.
Not nervous at all.... can you tell?!?!?LOL![]()
Whooo I did not know this. I found two wood crates at the produce stand, so they would not let me use those if I brought some birds in them? Wonder why. Glad to know for next time.
Oh Beth here is a picture of the guineas I got from you this weekend. They are doing great. Got upset when I took everyone out of the brooder outside for a little free play. I thought I should wait a bit more on them... they are like super fast.

I just wanted to post some pictures of the two silkies I got at WCA this past weekend. I still need to take some picks of the buff laced polish chicks, but those chicks are crazy scared of people. One got out and ran under the shed and I spent two hours trying to get it... finally my the grace of God he came out. I got to get them a little calmer so I can take a picture.
I have not a clue how old they are. I believe one is a little older than the other. At the auction they said "black", but when I was looking at them they looked kind of blue(different shades on them).
