. Let me know okay?

Ohhh okay. Yeah I guess the little chickies would fall right out.

CSB had it right.... I meant you can only use "cardboard" for chicks, you can certainly use a crate if they won't get out. You cannot put adults in cardboard. They could suffocate. Lately people have been coming up with very creative chick containers. Buckets, baskets, plastics jugs etc... with wire covering the tops/or for jugs, a section cut out replaced with wire.

I loved the mountain dew 12 pack box we saw on our first visitI bought 3 little animal cages this past time so I will new able to transfer them into that on the way home.. Glad I had them because my silkie box was falling apart.

Yeah, about the Monday do-over..... I need one!!!

DS woke up this morning with Pink-eye... nothing better than your kid walking up to you in the morning and he's trying to explain to you how his eye was stuck shut and how he opened it.

I'm on kitten watch, too. My cat looks like she's about to pop.

This is pretty frustrating for me. I've had broodies hatch eggs, but atleast you know where they are going to hatch. I'm pretty freaked out about where (and when) she may decide to birth-- she has a box set up and ready for her, but I doubt she will want to use it. I just know she'll deliver when I'm not here. This is also her first litter of kittens.

Not nervous at all.... can you tell?!?!?

LOL
I have been at the birth of many many kittens over the years. you are correct, she probably won't use the box, unless it is in a very quiet, dark place. And after she delivers, she may move them if she is disturbed very much. BTW, cats gestate for 63 days.

newborn kittens are just the best!!!

Whooo I did not know this. I found two wood crates at the produce stand, so they would not let me use those if I brought some birds in them? Wonder why. Glad to know for next time.

Oh Beth here is a picture of the guineas I got from you this weekend. They are doing great. Got upset when I took everyone out of the brooder outside for a little free play. I thought I should wait a bit more on them... they are like super fast.

Guineas are so cute... and fast... we have about 5-6 in the brooder off of our own birds.

I just wanted to post some pictures of the two silkies I got at WCA this past weekend. I still need to take some picks of the buff laced polish chicks, but those chicks are crazy scared of people. One got out and ran under the shed and I spent two hours trying to get it... finally my the grace of God he came out. I got to get them a little calmer so I can take a picture.

I have not a clue how old they are. I believe one is a little older than the other. At the auction they said "black", but when I was looking at them they looked kind of blue(different shades on them).

Silkie A:

Silkie B:

Yep... they are blue... cute chicks.

Ok, so here's the final plan and schedule:

Jam Class -

Date: Sunday May 27th
Time: 2:30-5:30 (at the latest)
Mission: Jam and can some awesome strawberries
Cost: $30 per person

The place: My house

The run down:

We'll be covering the great wide world of jam/jelly/syrup options. I'll go over equipment, safety, health and the science behind it. You aren't requires to purchase ANYTHING for this. I want everyone to be comfortable and have hands on experience before you run out and buy anything.

The main point I'll be sticking to is acceptable means of canning as stated by Ball and the FDA, so we won't cover wax fill. This is all about waterbath canning. I will cover some things with the pressure canner for anyone who is interested or has questions, but actually using the pressure canner is a while other class.

I will include a booklet that covers everything we cover in deeper detail, it will include my recipes to try from home as well. Snacks and coffee included. Everyone goes home with a jar of jam!

If you'd like to bring a friend or family member, please do! I just ask you let me know how many so I can make sure there is enough booklets, snacks and jars for everyone!

Most of all, this is going to be fun. Canning can be hard work if you make it, other wise its a great experience and great knowledge to have to pass around to friends and family.

Please PM me if you need the address and contact info if you plan to be there. :)
