North Carolina

Sleepless night rambling to follow .... ..... ......

Anyone who has chickens eventually figures out what a crop is. It is that pouch along the esophagus that fills up with food on the breast of a chicken. We all agree this is on the right side of the bird, right? It can hold quite a bit of food and can stretch out way more then you would think, which allows birds to be gluttons. Can also be a source of problems if impacted, sour, or distended. I have dealt with all of these at one point of another over the years.

For months I have been observing my 'Indy' (Miss Independent). Her crop is on the Left. No idea why, but it is. I am sitting here wondering what else is backwards inside her. I know there is a condition where people can have reversed organs(situs inversus), but have never heard of it in a chicken. She will never be processed(Dot's Granddaughter), but if she ever passes away I may do a necropsy just to see. She lays and is otherwise a normal bantam hen, well pullet for 9 more days.

Ok, I am going to lay back down. Not sure why, I ain't going to be able to go to sleep.

Does this hen have a rose/pea comb? I have noticed that single comb birds tend to be brown/tan layers.

Mine are only 13 weeks old and only one has a comb so far and Im thinking it might be a roo cause it showing so young and its pretty permanent? The others dont have anything comin up...so can I get my hopes up that i will get blue & green eggs?

Oh well, I can't figure this out, wanted to reply to the the post of the guy on the 'bike' with all the fowl aboard but can't get it to repost here. I was just wondering if that was homeless version of a backyard flock?
Good morning brisk North Carolina!
