North Carolina

You know it is really sad; I have been in this state for 7 years now, and I must never get out because I don't know where anything is!

I know where a few local markets are, cooperative extention office, the Libraries, grocery stores, Lowe's, TSC, wcc, ecu, many elem schools, and Duke Hosp/clinic. I have got to get out more.... This is terrible!!!!

It is like I need an intervention or something. OK... Time to check on the chickens... All of my guy are gone, and I will spend the day in the kitchen, yard, and on line doing research... blah... blah... blah...

Chas
I can do you one better! I've lived in NC my whole life and in my area my whole life (I'm 27) and don't know where tons of things are.

Heck I've mapquested where some places are when someone mentions they are from a particular area. Or pulled up a county map to figure out where they are in the state!

Yesterday was a scary day... I found out that all the idiots chopping down trees nearby have stirred up the predators and they are getting braver. We used to have wild boar and coyotes. I can deal with that... But now... We have a $^&*^& COUGAR!!!
barnie.gif
My pens are predator proof but I don't think anything short of steel bars would stop a cougar from getting into my pens. The neighbor also thinks he saw evidence of a bobcat living around here too. Any ideas on how to repel wildcats? I am going to invest in a motion sensor light to point at my pens at night.. Anything else I could do? I am going to post in the Predator section too. Just wondered if you guys had any ideas.
WOW! Unlike coyotes you can get help with trapping large wild cats. When we had the issue in Feb with the Coyotes they just told me I could shoot them. Who knew that a mad woman chasing them with a broom stick could chase them off? Not me; until I did it.

I think Wild Life Commission did the trapping for a friend that had cougars and bobcats getting under her trailer and tearing it up. They can be dangerous, please be careful.

I ask my husband where most things are, He is a truck driver.
I can find my way all over the place from one end of the state to the other in FL.
I get mixed up without even leaving town here. Maybe I am just getting CRS with age??????

Motion lights will help, I even bought the solar pred lights that flash red since we have been visited by a bear. Amazon has the pred lights for 2.00 cheaper than anywhere else.

Do you have a link to whee you found one bright enough. We don't power where the birds are, and it is very dark, even with solar lights. I don't see well as it is at night, and would love to light it up more down there; even if it is just motion detection. How many hours will it run if the duck gets restless and sets it off a lot, or the resident rabbits that look for what was missed during the day? I am on a very limmited budget this year, and most likely in the coming as well. ((When it rains it pours))

Chas

PS. Is this link the same light?

These are the predator lights i am talking about. I really don't think they make a solar motion light. I could be wrong though. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014FGT8C...&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&ref=asc_df_B0014FGT8C

Here is a link to what Harbor Freight has. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=solar lights

If you get motion lights for running off predators, you can also replace one of the light sockets with a plug. Then just plug in a small radio. When motion turns the light on it also turns on the radio.

Howdy all! Been reading and keeping up with goings ons, but have been to busy and not much happening except the garden and my knee surgery. Garden is finally slowing down...does anyone need jalapenos or candy roasters?,,,two things we seem to be able to grow very well. Knee surgery went well, recovery is slower than I would like but then again I have no patience!
Sent one of my buff roos to a new home, a harem with 4 buff ladies that are about 3 months older than him, His name is Ambrose and his new owner promises seems to really like him, he is a sweet boy what's not to like?
DH and I went to the NC Mountain State fair last night, some pretty chickens there. He actually really really liked the Lavender Orps! gonna be looking for some of those next spring!
Gotta run

X2 wildlife fish & game services helped trap a family of bobcats that showed up around here in the spring.
