Not bird related, but i did pick up two hogs this weekend. Theyre a bit skittish, which is normal, but chicken eggs make them warm up fast :D

What kind of hogs are they?

They're Berk/Large Black crosses and I think a little Hamp, too. Beautiful gilts.

They will be happy! One of ours was a runt i actually bottle fed. So they were soooo tame! Too tame lol, would knock us over if we werent careful.but We had them butchered in january. Messy messy messy, but it was worth it.

I much prefer tame hogs, to having to beat them off you in order to stay safe. I don't mind the butchering, too much. I mean, they're my buddies, so it always sucks, but at the same time, I know what they are being kept for.

My husband wants pigs if I get goats when our dog dies. I really don't like pigs. My uncle raised them for a while for Hormel and what I remember is they were large smelly loud and sometimes angry creatures. Even though they were in pens, I remember one rushing at the horse I was riding past and spooking it. We'll see lol. I think my husband and son are thinking our pot bellied indoor pig but I am saying no to that.

@gimmie birdies for sure 2 babies are frizzled, I think a 3rd might be, but couldn't get a good look because mummy kept hovering/covering them. The 2 for sure are one black and the blue chick.

Uglyfoot, when are you doing the coop tour?

Are you talking about me coming over to your area? I am going to Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana starting FRIDAY!! We have to pick up a power hammer for my husbands blacksmith shop in Gibbon NE on Sunday. Then we will go up to the Black Hills and make our way back home thru Wyoming and Yellowstone park, going out the west gate and hitting several ghost towns in Montana. We should be home the next Friday. After that I can make my way out to you on one of my long weekends. I will be in touch about which weekend would be good. I am looking forward to visiting your area. Winthrop looks like such a great town.

It's all in the breeding and how you raise them. We plan on getting a breeding set up of American Guinea Hogs, which are a lot smaller and less "destructive" to pasture. For this year, though we just went with some feeders. Generally, if you put in a bit of effort, they can go from panic to pretty tame in a week. But, I would never have an indoor pig. They are smart, but stubborn and they will eat anything and everything, including the walls of your house. And, pot bellies and other "house pigs" can still easily reach 150+ lbs.

They look like Berks. All my Hampshires have been white banded. They look good. We have 2 sows, 2 gilts, and a boar. We breed the Hamps for local FFA/4H kids. The others are crosses that we breed and sell.
