Northern Breeders, please help

As you see you'll probably get as many varied opinions as you get responses. To have slower developing large fowl [this would certainly include Langshans] ready for fall shows you really need to get them out in November or December. I have some large fowl Reds that I didn't get out 'till March & they just aren't going to be ready for this fall. This year I plan to hatch some in September-October, that way they'll have some size before the real cold weather gets here.
Winter where you are will certainly be colder than Oklahoma was but still relatively mild. One of my daughters is in Pittsburgh & her winter is much milder than it is here so late fall to early winter hatches should work for you.
Bantams are another story. They don't take as long to finish out so spring hatches usually are fine. Granted your Langshan Bantams are going to take longer than an OEGB but if hatched by March they should be ready for fall shows.

Thank you all for your responses.

As of now, I'm not too worried about the shows. I'm still trying to build up my flock from the birds I started with after moving. Don't get me wrong, I want to show, but first and foremost is to get the breeders where I want them.

I will try to hatch out this next batch of eggs and see how it goes. When my new pullets start laying though, all bets are off and I'm hatching whatever I can get my hands on.

You're not kidding about the bantams! I was in shock when I started getting eggs around 5 months old! I've never had a Langshan lay an egg that early, and to have it in a bantam blew my mind! Definitely have not had the bantams for long, but have become a bit fascinated by them. All the personality of the largefowl without the huge feed bill.

Still nothing like holding a largefowl rooster in my hands like he is silly putty though...

My pullets are ready to be shown, the cockerels are another story.
