Okay thats adorable

My niece (toddler) loves the ducks a lot, she saw me with Sprightly and ran over. I told her "the duck is poorly".
She ran off, and brought me her toy medicine kit

She has gone into her house nesting box, suddenly from perky to tail pumping....
I'm going to hope this is a normal egg.
I'll let her stay there for a while and if no progress start treating all over again

Well, nothing
Perhaps I'm going crazy. That or she's doing an even better act than yesterday

She's behaving pretty okay now, and even had a few mouthfuls of food! So I'm letting her have some time "alone" to see how she is from the house. I'll keep an eye on her.
It's odd how she was suddenly in pain and then it passed within 30 minutes. I'm convinced she has an egg to lay, still

It's so sad these ducks were developed to be such prolific egg layers no wonder they have complications. Their little bodies have to go through so much.
Did you talk to @New duck mommy 2021 about the implant? It's always a good idea to talk with someone who has done this with their duck.

We've talked a bit about the whole situation. I'm trying to also do some research about possible treatments and what the vet may suggest if we end up having to go. (Still hoping that we can have a proper healthy egg today and continue treating from home).

Last time I was at the vet, I did ask about the hormone implant- she said they do the injections (she didn't comment on hormone implants which I think are different). But she said they were extremely expensive, hundreds, and that they'd take weeks to work and only last a short while. So she seemed not keen on them at all. We didn't have a reason to try it, at the time. But my gut feeling is that she won't be helpful with this kind of treatment. I think she may want to run tests and just focus on getting calcium into her. I'm not sure.
If its the injections or nothing, I'd rather treat from home. The cost, and the fact they may not be very effective, and provide no quick relief, all makes me feel its not worth it. I dont know as much about the implant option
The only good thing I can think of here is that Sprightly isn't laying more than usual- it's still 1 egg per day-- she just isn't producing proper shells suddenly. If I can get her calcium levels up, perhaps she'll be okay

Is it possible for the calcium to cause contractions even if there's no egg to lay?
This may be a really silly question. But I'm trying to figure out why she was struggling and then since been normal.

I should be safe to give her more, right? There's no risk of her laying an egg "prematurely"-- it would have to be in the part of her system ready to push out?

I probably sound really dumb. I'm just so worried I'm not sure I'm thinking clearly anymore
