I've never had to do this so hopefully someone who has can give you update on if it worked or not.
I think its worth a shot... I'm not sure how to black out their coop though.
The only thing I'm struggling to figure out is how to keep the vit D up while they're having limited daylight- I don't want Dougie to start having problems too

Maybe keeping Sprightly in an XL dog kennel within the coop?
 
It's a foldable dog crate... I don't think it... does that

I'll have to open the roof to get it in- ugh. I know there's a MASSIVE spider right where it opens.
