Well, somehow we seem to have weathered the storm from the past year, all those laying issues have died out and are yet to reappear.
Since my last update, I'm still only getting one egg per day. I figure it's Dougie, since the eggs look like hers and have no faults. So Sprightly is still on her winter break and doing amazing. She's enjoying life.
The girls are coming up for 2 years old, Dougie's birthday on the 25th and Spry's on the 29th.

Ducks are so much stronger than I ever thought they'd be- all those laying problems Sprightly faced, she got through it, I'm proud of her. Hopefully 2024 has less problems for her

Sprightly is struggling to lay an egg
I just saw her laying by the door, not a normal spot, puffed up and pumping her tail hard

Just gave her as much calcium as I can, she won't take anymore. She's struggling
Not sure if she'll pass it in a minute or if we'll need further advice

She hasn't been laying properly, and last night the shell was very brittle so I'm concerned

What breed is she? Certain breeds are more prone to soft shells due to genetics.

What breed is she? Certain breeds are more prone to soft shells due to genetics.

She's an Aylesbury mix of some sort, her genetics aren't going to be great as her parents were egg industry birds. She's from the leading UK duck egg brand.
Unfortunately it seemed she just couldn't keep up with the amount of eggs she was producing, thankfully she's doing better now though and is on her winter break!
