We have 6 breeds of hens and we never have a consistent laying pattern from them, except the 3 Americanas and the 1 Salmon Favorelle (Sammy). At least we believe it's her egg, simply because it is the only mauve egg that is laid every day and has the same shape. We have Delawares, Speckled Sussex, Dominiques, and Buff Orpingtons. Out of 16 hens on average I would say we get 9-11 eggs a day. I was curious as to why?

Thanks for your help egg eggperts!

We feed them Purina Organic feed and oyster shells, along with their own egg shells we bake at 300 for 10 minutes. Also every few days we give them organic kale, spinach, salad mix, or half a pumpkin, spaghetti squash also their water had Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.

Why are you expecting 16/16 daily?

With my pullets, only the Leghorns are predicted to lay daily and only for their first year. The RIR and Barred Rocks are predicted to lay 3-5 per week. So I'll expect 8 white egg from the Leghorns daily in the spring and 6-ish from the 10 brown egg layers.

Also, mine are 5 months old and just started laying 2 weeks ago. How old are yours and how long have they been laying?

How old are they? It is very common for hens just starting to lay to lay on an erratic pattern. After time they will lay more consistently and on a more rythematic pattern.

My flock of hens.
