So, you're unsure if he's a mix from your flock or a hatchery chick?

Why do you say his legs are pink? In those pictures they're yellow. His coloring is called barred buff columbian (like buff brahmas, but with the barring gene). He could be an RIR mix, but there are a lot of breeds that could have contributed to his coloring. He's definitely a mix.

Buff orpington
I assumed he was a mix from my flock but I do not have anything that is even close to that color??? but yes I just tossed the 2 batches into the brooder together and because there were so many different breeds it was impossible to Know what was what till they were bigger and then I was left with some that had me scratching my head?

I agree with you, he's not from a hatchery. Do you have any laced breeds? He looks like he has some lacing(?) on his chest. He also looks pretty big?

13 weeks old... Just want to see how good you are. I know what breeds this chick is. It comes from my flock. The father is a black jersey giant. The choice of hens are barred rock, delaware, red sex link, Cochin (black and white), Easter egger, and buff Orpington.

I have a white laced red cornish (hatchery quality and not great) I do not think he was in that pen. A couple of marans mixes?

here is a necked neck that the markings are similar. I wonder if it could be hatchery americauna mix. They are both good size boys. I am mesmerized by the color!
Oh well I would imagine they will add plenty of interest to my mixed flock

Cochin is possible, except that she is clean-legged. Easter egger is also possible if any of your EEs have any white. However, assuming she has a single comb and doesn't have a beard, EE is less likely. The red sex link is the mother.

He could be a marans mix. I'm thinking he has naked neck genetics, just didn't inherit the naked neck trait. It would make sense because naked necks aren't usually bred for color unless they came from someone breeding for show. So all sorts of mixed colors can show up from breeding them.

She's a Delaware Black Jersey Giant Cross... I only know because I mark my eggs and know what egg comes from what chicken. The red sex link crosses all came out black and brown. I don't have any of those left because someone bought all 20 of them. Someone said they're white because of a silver gene in the Delaware their legs are also slate colored. Their eyes are really cool looking too. I kept two of these crosses because they looked the most pullet to me. First time I ever got sexing right 😂

That would make sense... but it's genetically impossible. That chick has dominant white. Delawares are barred silver columbian. Delawares also don't have slate legs. Red sex links are usually red columbian with dominant white, which makes their black neck and tail feathers turn white. However, since they're hybrids, they're not pure for dominant white, so crosses can turn out to be like your other chicks, red and black.

Definitely not red sex link... It didn't come from a brown egg. It came from a cream egg that my Delaware lays. Genetics are funny to me because everyone thinks they have it figured out, but apparently not because this chick isn't supposed to be the color it is. I had several people tell me all my chicks would be black... None were.

The thing is, dominant white can't just pop up out of nowhere. It's not a recessive gene. Good point about the egg color, but Delawares are also supposed to lay brown eggs. Are you sure that none of your EEs could have laid that egg?
Out of curiosity, what colors did you get? You said in your other post that some of the red sex link mixes were black. The fact that most of your chicks aren't black isn't that strange. It's usually assumed that black crosses will generally be all black or mostly black because it's a pretty dominant color. However, buff x black can produce mostly buff-colored offspring, red x black can produce black with a lot of red leakage, dominant white x black produces white chicks, Columbian x black can sometimes even make fully columbian chicks, etc.

My EE was at POL but didn't lay until 22ish weeks.

They were white with black markings like that one and brown with black markings.

I can't breed anymore Delaware jersey crosses because she now is mating with my silver sebright. The red sex links I think are the only ones mating with my black jersey giant.
