Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

I have 2 Crevecoeur’s they are 6 weeks old, one I have been told is a rooster (that’s picture #2) but the other I’m starting to wonder and would be devastated to find out that SHE is actually a HE. #2 started attempting to crow (like nails on a chalkboard) but noticed tonight that #1 was making the noise as well and they kind of “charge” at each other every now and again. I am a new chicken mom so I’m not sure if this behavior is “normal”. If it turns out that I have 2 roosters (I only have 3 chickens all together) how long until I have to get rid of one?

I have no idea .... but WOW those are some interesting-looking chickens! I hope you do have a pair b/c the could be very fun to breed.

No obvious male signs today. That could change by next week, of course. The dark one has thick legs. Could be a larger breed in his/her mix or it may grow a pink male comb. Time will tell.
Thank you. I was under the impression that since it seems the grey/blue chick is showing some rusty colors on its chest area it would likely be a male due to the fact it has maran lineage.
They were hatched from OE eggs, and supposed to be a F2 olive egger.
The barring on the other chick has me questioning it as well. It seems he/she is a mix of CCL and barred chicken of some sort.

I hate to say it, but your one BR looks male. The other looks female.

I guess I'll be calling them Winner and Dinner then. :) Tomorrow I'm picking up 4 more day old chicks. 2 leghorn and 2 RIR. Hopefully I get lucky and get some girls. If he grows up to be a good boy we'll keep him because I'm already a fan of his personality. Thanks for the input!

Hello. I have 3 black wyandottes, age 6 weeks. 2 & 3 have just red flat spots where their combs will be someday, but #1 has something different. What do you think? It still might be too early to tell, but nothing screams cockerel about them yet. I read on another board here that the shape of the comb doesn't mean anything. Wyandottes that have strictly rose comb genes have lower fertility rates, so breeders sometimes cross them and you can end up with either comb types.

Bummer, they are very interesting but it’s hard to find a lot of information on them.. here’s to hoping that she will remain a she!

Thanks for the link! Isn't that sort of funny that they mention caffeine? I will have to wait and see on this one!

Thanks! Here are 2 more of my suspected cockerel. Do these help any?
Still looks like a cockerel.

One more suspected roo in center..
When you can notice a pea comb like that across the coop on such a young bird, it's pretty sure to be a cockerel. I would never say absolutely, because there are always the odd exceptions...
