Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me determine the sex and breed of this bird. I bought 8 supposed 15 month old hens off a lady on Craig's list. I'm thinking she may have picked up a rooster or two by mistake. For one thing out of the 8 chickens I'm only getting about an average of 4 eggs per day and the other is I've specifically seen this chicken mount the others. Maybe it's just a dominance thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time having chickens.

Black Sexlink hen. It will take time for them all to settle in and relax in their new environment enough for them to start laying. Moving is a big stress. And stressed birds do not lay.

So basically establish myself as pack leader with him and make it clear I'm the alpha chicken?
I've read on this awesome site that a good rooster should avoid you. If he tries to have a go at you pick him up and carry him around to establish that you are top rooster. There is lots of info on this site about dealing with roosters so do a search and see what you can find. You do get the odd rooster that is just mean and nasty in his personality and requires you to make a tough decision.

New to BYC, have an Ameraucana around 10 weeks old and I fear rooster. Please let me know your thoughts!

With a comb that red, at that age, it's a cockerel. Also, notice how the red on his wing/shoulder area is a deeper, darker shade than the red on the rest of the body? That's 'rooster' red.
Thank you. I was hoping for a hen since that is my only EE. Hope they are docile roosters. DD likes that chicken.
