Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

A bright red comb, regardless of breed, by 8 weeks old, is a sure indicator of a male. Patchy coloring, or deep red through the shoulders is another sure sign.
So as far as my Australorps do you say Roos?

I'm not very good at distinguishing those.
Once you see them in person it gets easier and you will know when you see them. They look nothing like a pullets. :)

This photo is a good indication but not 100 percent. Their are exceptions. That's why I say saddle feathers unless it obvious. I have 3 faverolles I got sexed from a hatchery. They are getting a little red in the comb at only 7 weeks. Faverolles can be sexed my color similar to sex links so I know mine are female. I would think Roo if I didn't know better.

Thanks.  At what age do the saddle feathers show up on EE's?  I have 3 ten weeks olds.

I don't have a male easter egger so I can't say breed specifically but most cockerels will start showing by 12 weeks. Some earlier and some later. It's the next most sure thing though besides crowing or laying eggs..
