Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

The muff/beard gene is dominant. It doesn't hide. One of the parents must be muffed to produce this chick.

Ok, thanks, I'm going thru pics. Do these look like muffs? This is definitely the father. The only cockerel I had at the time.
The frizzle feathers kinda get in the way! lol

Yep, he's muffed. He's a mix, not a Cochin.

For real??

Oh well, I already have his replacement, so I guess I better go ahead and get rid of him. Thanks a bunch.

Another indication that he isn't a Cochin is his skin color. Cochins have yellow skin. You can see that his toes are white.

I see that.

I've had him for over a year, posted dozens of pictures of him, I can't believe no one pointed that out to me. Any guess on what mix he may have in him?

Sorry for the million questions. I appreciate the help though.

Probably some D'Uccle in him.

Ok, that would make sense, because the person I got the eggs from had some d'uccle also.

One more question if you don't mind.... Why are all of his offspring not bearded/muffed?

All of these chicks (except the mottled in the first pic pic) are his offspring.
The mottled is his replacement from a totally different bloodline.

This cuckoo is not his offspring either. She is the mother of several of those

He's only got one copy of the muff/beard gene, so only about 50% of his chicks will be muffed/bearded. That third chick pictured is definitely muffed.
