This 5 week old Welsummer is for sure a boy isn't he? Flighty and a bit aggressive too. Hope he mellows out or we won't be keeping him.
I guess I shouldn't have named him Buckbeak...

The males have an entirely different look than the females as adults and usually give themselves away even in baby feathers. Look at the chest for splotches of black. The females never have that.

Hello Everyone!!! I am hoping my chicks are developed enough for the experts to tell me what gender my chicks are. I have six and will post their photos separately. I banded them all so I can tell them apart.

the first is my Barred Plymouth Rock (BPR) red band

here is one of my buff orpingtons sporting a green band. anyone? btw, they are 7 weeks old.

and another BPR wearing a yellow band.

BPR in a white band. again, they are all 7 weeks.

and the last, my buff orpington wearing no band at all! my fingers are crossed that they are all female. btw, i was corrected at the agway store when i referred to the female gender as a pullet. they told me that a pullet is not gender identifying but rather the age of a chicken. i'm confused.

Can someone please, please tell me if I've mostly boys or girls? Some have a Chushin comb while others have the single. I was told that the red ones were girls while the black and white ones are... You'll have to wait till they mature... Can someone please help!

Looks pullet but can you do a full body shot?

I will try to get a full body shot in the morning. This one is the only one with the red comb and neck thing. The other one doesn't have it at all. I am wondering if she is just developing faster than the rest of them.
