Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Got 5 chicks three months ago, the feed store tried to pick out all girls...but now I've been told they are aaaaall roos. This is my first flock so I am not sure, I thought the white egger was the only roo, but now I'm not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Quote:And that's how new chicken owners get in trouble with raising cockerels. What they see as cute and friendly can actually be early warning signs of aggression. Cockerels that jump up on laps aren't always being friendly. It's an act of dominance, and is very disrespectful behavior towards you. If you pick him up and set him on your lap, it's a very different situation from him voluntarily invading your space. One situation, you are in control. The other situation, he's in control.
Ah right ! With the Orloff s/he does both, they let us pick them up. She even falls to sleep whilst been petted. I'm so disappointed that they are potential males... The breeder did say if they happen to be male we can take them back to her which is positive but I will be so sad to see them go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi, I'm wondering the gender of my black copper maran chick, Maple. I'm thinking she/he had to be approximately 4-6 weeks old? I've had her for a little over 2 weeks & I thought she was around 4 weeks old when I got her...but I'm all new to chickens so I'm not sure what they should look like yet at different ages. I have more pictures if you need them. Thanks!

One Black sexlink cockerel, a Production Red cockerel, 2 Easter Egger cockerels, and a Light Brahma cockerel. All have very clearly visible male saddle feathers. Sorry.

They aren't potential males, they are definite males. Females will not have those shiny, pointed, thin back feathers. It's specific to males only.
