Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Cockerel

Ok. We'll try this. They are about 19 weeks old, very loud and not laying yet so we were wondering that maybe we have some roosters in the bunch?
Sorry for the obstructed photo. It's suppose to rain for the next 2 days so we are not letting them out to free range right now.

All hens. The Production Reds will be laying very soon.

I had the same question about the "tennis balls" my orpis are a bit late laying too :) Husband keeps calling them freeloaders.. lots of chicken shaming..

Pullet. And reddening combs at 4 months old is an indication that females are reaching egg laying maturity. Males are usually bright red in the comb by 10 weeks old.

So should we leave the golf balls in there? Should we even have any in the nests? Should we put one more in the other nest so that there are three? Not sure how this works.

Golf balls are fine. I don't use golf balls personally, but they should help point out the right direction for the pullets. And sure, go ahead and put another one in the third nest if you want. However, your pullets will most likely only use one or two nests because chickens are like that.
