Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

This is a hen yes?

This one (foreground) is also through the 1/4" cloth so maybe to hard, but it's a crested cream legbar over production red and I'm not sure cockerel or pullet. Comb is dark and obvious, but body shape and feathers say pullet to my rookie eye.View attachment 1123618

If it's the same age as the one in back, I'd guess boy. Females' combs tend to stay small/pale until they get close to laying.

Yes, this one could be a roo. I see a 3-rowed pea comb, Not 100% accurate because some people have had rare cases of hens with a comb like that. However, it's a strong indicator. It's also is standing alert with head held high like a roo. If it often stands like that (normally when camera's not around), has thicker legs, & slightly darker epaulets on wings then there's a very good chance he's a boy. Pointed saddle feathers & crowing are the last 2 male signs to appear.

18 weeks IS close to laying, though. Shoot, some production birds are two weeks in by then.

I'd need to look for rooster feathers on this one to be sure and the provided photo isn't going to work for that. But I don't see obvious cockerel.

ETA: I was able to get a good zoom after all. No rooster feathers there. Going with POL pullet.

It doesn't crow or act like a rooster but looks suspect and i haven't seen it lay an egg as i got it during winter and not all have resumed laying. It is 12 months old. I will try to find another pic

I only got it a few months ago and it looked the same then. From a local lady she said they were a year old mixed breed. The rest look to be around that age, this one doesn't look like the rest. May have unloaded an older bird to me with the others. Not too much of a worry, it was about a rooster hen ratio problem at the time that needed correcting and i was having a lot of trouble finding any birds at all.
