Not too sure about this 12 on 12 off feeding schedule

If you only did it for one night, you really don't have an accurate gauge on how much they're eating by comparison. They really do need to be on restricted feed. They will act just as starved whether they've been without food for 2 hours or 12 hours. It's kind of like how when you come home, regardless of how long you've been gone, your dog acts like you've been gone a year and were never coming home. Animals have no concept of time- these birds just live to eat, and get restless when there isn't any food in front of them. I don't feed mine for 24 hours before butchering day. I also put their tractors over my driveway so they have NOTHING to eat, and they act no different. So, they aren't starving. It's also right around a week old also that they start to eat a lot more, so it's probably a coincidence. Can't you put them somewhere other than your living room? I can't imagine the smell, not to mention the dander covering the entire house.
