November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

LOL! I have one lone egg in lockdown now. This is my last egg, last hatch of the year. Whew, I will actually be relieved to take a break from hatching and get some sleep, LOL! I think I have been hatching non stop staggered hatches since August...
I'll believe it when I see it!

how's every body else??

SO I attempted to make a pip for my two very late eggs. When I did I could see that they appear to have quit developing a while back. Not sure how/why but I could SWEAR I have seen movement from these 2 eggs. Wondering if it's not some kind of external vibration making the eggs shake. If so, that could be a problem, right? I don't know. Just hope that I have some chicks in the remaining eggs, but not too hopeful at this point. Also threw out 3 eggs yesterday that were 14 days and obviously totally clear. I plan to attempt the next hatch with local eggs that are not mine to see if that solves my problems at all. Also ordering a new thermometer/hygrometer in case mine is not accurate which seems could be the case. Holding out a little hope for the rest of my eggs, but looking forward to trying again after I work out the kinks.

I'm only on day 13-14, and looks like I lost 2 in the last couple of days. So now from my original dozen from E-bay, 2 were clear at day 8, 3 had expired before day 8, one appears to have quit on day 12, and the last one died last night. I have the last two quitters still in the bator, but I'm pretty positive they are lost. The last two that quit also looked like porous eggs and had the "saddle shaped" air cells. I hope the last five will make it. There are a couple that are thicker and hard to candle but I still see veins.

One egg I threw in from my own chickens is still going strong.

This is my first batch and it is a depressing learning curve.

I couldn't agree more about the depressing learning curve! You want so badly to successful hatch them and it's SOOO frustrating when it doesn't happen. I am getting some more eggs from my mother-in-law (Silkie-Cochin cross) hopefully soon and plan to get some from a neighbor soon to try again. We did the homemade bator this time but I am seriously considering going out and buying a new incubator this weekend. My temps and humidity were good throughout according to my thermometer/hygrometer, but clearly something went wrong along the way!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!Our chicks got attacked by a raccoon last night and 2 have no toes and 1 has no back toes!!!!!!!!! we need to know what do for the chicks not how to catch the raccoon!!!!

they're in shock...bring them in and keep them warm and comfortable...of course wash the injuries and apply an antibiotic WITHOUT pain reliever...poor babies...keep up informed...

I have to, I promised hubby, LOL! With 150 chicks/chickens or so right now our feed bill is killing us :/ I went back to fermenting their feed and that is helping I think. I had planned on selling off the extras a few weeks ago, but then the flock got fowl pox :( So I can't sell anything till I know for sure everyone is 100% healthy. Soon we will be paying more to feed them than us, and I only have about 5 hens actually laying so they sure aren't paying for themselves, LOL!
