November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

I have a trio of lavenders a few months old 25 for the three!! a little over priced! of course I'm not a big fancy breeder!
Yes, part of what you pay for with breeders is the genetics, the name, the show history etc. If you just want them for eggs, because you think they are pretty, as a pet etc you can often find more affordable birds from local backyard enthusiasts such as yourself. Also those that sell only locally usually sell lower as they have a more limited market. I can pay $99 per chick for a rare breed pullet straight from Greenfire farms - the original US importer. OR I can pay $15 per chick from my local breeder for second generation birds and no shipping :) It is always lovely when you can find a local breeder. For me, the lavender leghorns are only available in one or two flocks in the US. Greg of Old Orchard Farms is a second generation breeder who carried on his father's legacy in creating the lavs leghorns from scratch. If I breed and sell them I can command a pretty nice price as well for their progeny - and I can use them for my own project - Isabelle Leghorns in the future. I love the Isabelle coloring.

Quote: ya...hopefully soon
I read where someone had a virus that they were concerned would be in the soil, after an illness, so they took a torch and burned the soil

makes some sense.

What colors are you expecting? I like their markings now but know that won't stay. Do you know what difference is between Porcelain and Lavender?
I'm expecting white, maybe buff, porcelain and partridge. porcelain has several different color variations in it. My avatar pic is my porc roo. Some have more of a mauve color to them, just depends. Lavender look to be more of a light light gray all around color. Lavs are harder to get and keep alive for some reason. I've heard this from several breeders. My focus is on the porc colors. They're my favorite so that's my spring project.

One of my roos is displaying some very odd behavior towards me. I think he wants to mate my feet. He does his side chicken dance like he does my girls but doesn't ever "hop" on. They also do that dance when their sizing up another roo, but he's never shown any aggression towards me. He's really sweet with me actually. He's always the first to run out to greet me and follows me everywhere. Even makes sure the mean roo stays away from me. What do you guys think? He's the only one to do his dance around me.

he's probably telling the other guy to stay away...I ignore unless I need to act dominant which has only happened a few times but it was mostly about the 2 roo's
I was trying to figure the color of my little silkie...I found this web sitehttp://pictureperfectpoultry.4t.com/whats_new_2.html
I was thinking you might be interested in it because of the color charts
I'm guessing that my calico is a mix of a grey and partridge because she has some partridge coloring starting to show....although the grey's underlying color is partridge...so I don't know

HELP!!!! I don't know what to do. It's day 10, and my temp has been holding steady around 99/100. Now suddenly the temp has dropped to 95! First, how long will my embryos survive that? Second, how do I fix it??? Sould I turn the temperature up in the bator? Maybe in the house? (It's 69 now)

I'm so worried. I have seven embryos kicking this morning...I don't want to lose them!:barnie:(
