November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

It's day 20. I had to open the incubator to put water in, so I quickly whisked out my only light egg to look at it. It was a very healthy embryo a couple days so, but now it appears to have died. No movement, curled up in the small end, veins aren't very visible anymore...

Is there a chance that it is still alive? I don't know what they're supposed to look like at this point.

And now I'm really depressed - because if that embryo can die, I don't have much hope for any of them. The rest are Marans and I haven't been able to see into any of them, so I don't even know how they were doing when they went into lock down.

:hit

I don't ever want to incubate again - this is too stressful! :barnie

It is so stressful!! Day 22, one chick has been alive for 8 hours. Four more have pipped. One looks like it's about to unzip. One looks stuck, membrane looks like it's yellowing. After talking with other chicken experts, I'm going to attempt to help it.

a few days before they internally pip they get very quiet, resting and absorbing to get their strength
what you have described sounds normal.
it's day 20 so I bet later today it's internally pipped!! if not externally !!

can you clean something today to keep busy?? lol

Day 23

4 of 16 eggs Hatched.
3 more external pipped

I can't tell if they have internal pipping or not, as my eggs are dark brown eggs. I'm afraid to do a float test. Don't now if it will harm them or not. I'm a noob at hatching. The 4 that have hatched are pecking at the pipped one's holes. Should I remove them, or leave them. It' been at least 6 hours since the other 3 have pipped. I found them when I woke up this morning.
Not really sure what to do. I can supply pics if needed.
