If you hear chirping...they have internally pipped ..............

Thank you. Last night I was mostly calm and relaxed with the first two hatching, but when I woke this morning and only those had pipped while I was asleep it was hard to know if I should intervene or not. Staying busy is hard to do when I have already taking care of every animal on the farm. (goats, donkey, ducks, cats, dogs, fish, turtles and the chickens) Hmm back to do more research about the animals I guess.

They can take 24 hrs. or more from pip................Also, if you go to the next thread above this one........
Incubation and go into the 'Sticky"....there are instructions on when and how to intervene..
I need to learn how to post a link..

So my first successful hatch has produced these cuties! Can't wait for my silkie eggs to hatch around Thanksgiving!

Very cute.

he actually didn't say much!!! He said "mama" "you keep saying your done for winter" I said, "I have 2 brooders full I'm already committed and I want more blue egg layers" then he hugged me!!! I love him!!
Sometimes I think I need one of those. But I don't think there are many like yours.

How old have your, anyone, roosters been when they were actually fertilizing the eggs? I know have 3 roosters making their best efforts, need to order saddles soon. The eggs have bullseyes but they are not fertile. I have read this is because the roosters are imature. Also is there a way to teach the roosters no means no? I don't want to get rid of them but I don't like them forcing some of my hens. I've read they are supposed to ask first with a dance but it has been bread out of some breeds.

My cockerel is only about 9 months old and has been fertilizing eggs for a while now. Just hatched his first egg yesterday. There are two eggs left, but I suspect one is dead and the other isn't ready to hatch yet (sister set them at different times; this one may be a couple days younger). I hope one more hatches so this baby isn't alone. He already screams for me if he can't see or hear me...

All of our roo's are 7 months old and we are in the process of hatching theirs ATM. Currently hatched 5 of 16. They are still pipping and unzipping ATM. So I estimate they were fertilized when our roo's was around 6 months old. The first hatch from them only a few of the eggs were fertile. The roo's were approximately 5 months old at that time.

As with the "No means NO" Some of our Roo's are gentle and do a dance, some dance and are not gentle to the hen. Some get the hen when we walk in to feed with no dance at all. He gets them while they have their back turned. I don't think the hen can say no and the rooster abide.
