Woke up to these five beauties. Looks like they may be sex linked with the coloring. A sixth has hatched and is drying off in the bator. 11 more eggs to go!!!

ddddddddddsssssssssssssssssssssssssss sfffehmm me[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[/ eeYay! Lockdown begins tomorrow for hatch number 2! After culling some clears and a couple of blood rings at day 10, the 23 I have left seem to be doing great.
The first hatch is just over a month old now and they are growing like weeds. We built 2 awesome A frame tractors for them so they could get on the ground and enjoy the grass, weeds, bugs and dirt. OMG do they ever LOVE the sand. I offered 'play sand' in a separate dish from the beginning and they attacked that stuff like it was crack. It worried me that maybe they we eating too much sand, but they were happy and healthy with no pasty butts. Why argue with success?
Tonight, for the first time, they finally found their way to "bed" without help after a week of having to tuck them in every evening. I was so proud!
We'll be adding on to the present coop to make room for all my new babies when they outgrow the A frames. Lucky me, I was only hoping to get a pen built that was half the size of the coopsI have now, but it would appear that my husband is as addicted as I am... he wants to add on space equal to what I already have with a covered aisle between the two. lol!![]()
After looking at so many chicken pictures on here, ya'll make me want at least one of each! Such beautiful chickens! I never knew there were so many different kinds!!
I wish I could free range mine during the day, but the hawks would probably clean me out pretty quick. We've also got owls, coons, skunks, possums, fox, cats and dogs to worry about.
There is just something so relaxing about watching chickens scratch in the grass.
Sorry to ya'll who have lost babies. I have been following the stories. So sad. It is, however, nice to know I hang out here with such kind, loving people.
Love that turkey story too! Go Max!
So cute.
I'm up to six pips now. First one was discovered about 7 hours ago. Probably won't be getting any sleep tonight! Lol.
Max is an excellent nurse. Hasn't left my side. I feel better than yesterday. But then I could fall off of a 5 story building and feel better than yesterday. I think the worst is over. Maybe another day or two and Max can go back to being a carefree turkey frolicking around the house.well yesterday was day 7 and all my eggs look amazing EXCEPT my lakenvelders!! I'm gonna be disappointed...but the lady I bought them from was unable to send the whole order at once so maybe when she ships the next few they'll do better![]()
white leghorns, which by the way are huge eggs, faverolles, orloffs all veining and some bouncing![]()
How are you feeling today Deanna??? is Max taking good care of you??![]()

Sara came in this morning and laid another egg in the laundry room. Penny went for a gimpy walk around my bedroom floor. Penny's leg is definately not broken. She does not want to go back outside. Another episode of 'As the Egg Turns'.
It was pretty accurate coloring. I didn't wash any of the eggs before incubating them as I read that's not wise. I bleached the whole incubator/turner before using and I wash my hands before and after handling the eggs. I'm pretty sure it was from the dirty eggs, if anything.
Question...I still have 4 eggs in the incubator. One of the last chicks to hatch drug his/her shell around and got blood on one of the 4 remaining. Is that going to be a problem? I have a week to go with them.
Yay, hatch update! Three out of four faverolles from my last hatch are out. The last one I had to help - it was so healthy and big it was too large to finish turning and zipping, so I popped it right out. I think the last egg may have died, I candled and it appears the veins have receded and there's no movement. The duckling due tomorrow, however, has internally pipped!!
Oh, and for anyone keeping up on my hatching addiction, I have 30 silkies due the thirtieth, 5 silkies and 9 blue salmon faverolles due the first, and 8 salmon faverolles due the first or second. So 52 eggs![]()
That was me speculating. I'm not expert enough to know for sure. The roo is an all white EE. The mom is orange.

Above is dad.
As I was typing this a hawk mounted one of my pullet RIRs. An accurate shoe thraw thwarted the attempt though. Man. What a day.
Eddie Lee as I drank my tea this morning I caught up on this thread and enjoyed the progression of posts from you. Congratulations! Can you tell me what type of chicks these are are how you would know if they were sex linked? I hope to be hatching what I hope will be sex links and I was curious if you could tell the first time you hatch them. Thanks!
