November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

One had died in shell last night and 10 hours later after she unzipped, I bit my lip and took the egg out to see if I can help. And she was dead.
And she was my showgirl. Ugh. Two more have pipped, one on the way and another waiting to pip. Sigh. First lost is hard. Wow.

Aww so sorry for ur lose!:hugs I hope the rest make it out for u safely!

I am just so darn nervous now! Five sounds less than six baby fluffy chicks running around!

So update on the hatch I think/thought was doomed. I candled again today (day 6), and it seems like maybe there's something going on in a few. Two seem to very clearly have air cells. But - and this is what makes me think there's somethig wrong - I don't see veining in any of them. Is it possible my light just isn't bright enough? I'm so worried!
VERY possible your light is too weak. The candler I got was worthless. I picked up a 256 Lumen LED flashlight that is about 6 inches long and has a small head at Walmart and it is PERFECT :)

My sweet husband has worked for 2 days building a covered porch for the bantie coop! isn't he sweet...I need to post a pictures of it...we painted the coops too! looking good!

AND out of 12 Maran eggs 11 are good and strong...10 more days for them

oh oh and I candled the wheaton eggs...only 1 has a detached air cell...maybe I will be lucky and get a chick or two...blue splash...I would so love that!
You deserved something good happening.....................

I think another one of my chickens, Sage, laid her first egg today.  But it could have been Sara laying in a new spot and Sage checking it out.  It's funny watching the other chickens checking everything out.  They all stand around waiting and watching while another is laying an egg.  Cinnamon, the one that broke into the house yesterday while I was gone, snuck in again.  I have decided anytime she comes in, I'm going to cuddle her.  She has been cuddle A LOT lately.  I was outside petting my dog, I turned around to feed the chicks.  When I turned back, Cinnamon was petting my dog.  She really was.  She petted her for awhile.  Has anyone else every had a chicken petting a dog?  I wish I had my phone with me.  I lovemy crazy chickens.

Sad news.  Last night I was bringing in the young ones.  I found my largest Black FCM rooster, 6 weeks, dead.  He looks fine.  I don't know what happened.  Maybe he got smoothered in the chick pile.  I think I still have 1 rooster and 5 hens left and one older hen and a splash rooster.

I went back outside and caught Cinnamon scratching Daisy.  Daisy likes it. This video isn't as funny as the first time but still cute.

So sorry about your roo :( I have lost 9 chickens recently and I am getting so tired of it. Most likely its from the wet version of Fowl Pox here - but with the young ones there are usually no symptoms - they are just dead one morning :( So frustrating.... I vaccinated everyone last week, but now I have a bunch of new ones is the inside brooder and in the bator.... so going to have to order more vax for them. I just hope they all survive long enough to let the last batch hatch and then vax them all.

That video is so CUTE! I wish you could have gotten one the first time :) I am totally going to share that video - people think I am nuts when I talk about how cute chickens are. That'll show 'em!
