when are the eggs under mama 2 due?I may have compromised the remaing eggs. Today is day 3 from when the 4 chicks hatched. I knew they'd need to drink soon so I placed everyone in a box w smaller sides so when they needed to they could get their drink. I made sure momma stayed on her eggs and chicks then left. I went back out a few hours later and she got off the eggs with her chicks. My back up plan was to place the remaining eggs under the broody in the nursery next door. I plan to move those chicks back to the original momma w the other chicks. Do you think if I get any hatchlings it will throw her off and she'll abandon the 2 eggs she was broody over?
you only need to monitor the humidity and add water as necessary to keep the humidity within the desired range...I don't need to add water until it gets closer to the hatch date...as the moisture evaporates from the eggs it creates humidity...in my bator it usually runs between 25% to 35% maybe a little higher...if it drops below 25% I add a spoon full of water...then the last 3 days I fill the troughs and keep the humidity between 65 and 75%I have been reading every thread I can about incubating eggs and now I have a question. Do you need water in the 'bator at all times? I saw that on another post and he said "you should have water at all times so the eggs do not lose too much or the chicks will get stuck". If you add water, wouldn't the humidity get higher? My bator is the FI (farm innovators) Pro 4200 series from TSC. Thanks in advance..

Quote: if they hatch and you give them to mama 1 that first night she'll probably take them...I have done it...she saw them and stood up sort of in a squat to let them under but the next day I had to keep it because the others were so much older that the baby was getting buried when mama scratched and it couldn't keep up...then I gave it back again at night and the next day it was fitting right in....if you let the 2 mama hatch them I'm afraid she'll leave the eggs...I don't know anymore than that...just what I've done!
Ok thanks! I am keeping the humidity between 45 and 50% ( well, that's where it chooses to stay no matter what I do with no water in there ) and plan to up it by adding water when I go into lockdown. Just making sure I am giving these lil eggs every bit of chance I can give them.you only need to monitor the humidity and add water as necessary to keep the humidity within the desired range...I don't need to add water until it gets closer to the hatch date...as the moisture evaporates from the eggs it creates humidity...in my bator it usually runs between 25% to 35% maybe a little higher...if it drops below 25% I add a spoon full of water...then the last 3 days I fill the troughs and keep the humidity between 65 and 75%
If you saw nothing but yolk..........sounds like they were not fertile........... I had a temp spike of 110 and they still hatched.I know they aren't suppose to.Still just the one chick, but at least I have one!! At day 24 for 2 more since the eggs today and not looking good at all for them. Saturday is hatch day for 4 more eggs, none of which I'm holding much hope for either. Reflecting on this hatch, I'm thinking I may have had a temp spike somewhere along the way. When I did the eggtopsy on some ( don't read on if you are easily grossed out...LOL) they were full of a slime like substance. I mean, it clearly was not just a yoke, but I couldn't really see a baby either if that makes sense? They didn't stink either.so they weren't "rotten." Does this indicate something in particular that could have gone wrong during the hatch? I also noticed that the power went out at some point last night and when I got up the eggs had cooled somewhat, but not badly. By then it was back on and the incubator was showing a temp of 104! Don't know why it spiked after it went off? Luckily since the eggs had cooled, they did not seem to overheat and I was able to get the temp back to normal rather quickly. But that could have meant the end of the rest of my hatch entirely had I not caught it when I did!
We had some pretty nasty storms here last night and I was outside repairing the roof of one of my chicken houses with my hubby at 5:30 this morning. Not a fun way to start the day BUT I sure can't have my chickies being rained on all day! My poor hens seemed pretty shaken by the ordeal this morning. Just not acting like their happy selves, with the exception of my sweet Onyx who, like usual was immediately at my feet and following me like a puppy!![]()
Today is the day I get my speckled Sussex hen and my Frizzles!! I'm SO excited to meet them!!If anyone can get me some advice about a way to upload pics from an Ipad I would LOVE to share some pics of my new chick as well as my new babies I pick up today! Thanks!![]()
And congratulations to all the new hatches over the last couple days!! Some CUTE chicks!!!!![]()
