I'm really looking forward to Renee's eggs hatching. After my sister's attempt at incubating and only managing to hatch one chick, Renee's eggs had been infertile. But I have three eggs in the incubator that have made it this far (the one in the back in the pic is one of her eggs, the other two are further forward in the incubator where the temp is a degree or two higher). The one in the pic should be pipping in the next day or so.

I also have four of Renee's eggs under one Silkie, and three under the other. I haven't candled in a couple days or so, but one had development when I did,

I have lost count, but I am up well over 50 quail chicks at this point. I have lost a few to some deformities (couple with wry neck that wouldn't get better, and a couple with yolk sacs attached that were dead in the incubator after hatching) but for the most part they have been pretty healthy. There are still a few hatching, but trying to leave them in the incubator as long as possible to fluff up and get stronger as some of the chicks in the brooder are 3 1/2 days old now.

They are eating like champs! They are getting 28% Turkey starter, ground in a coffee grinder. That is what is in the two feeders you see in the pictures (one is the base of a LG feeder, the other is the lid to a Folgers coffee can.) They also have fresh water (changed at least daily) with a half rate of Sav-A-Chick, just to keep the electrolytes up for any still getting going.

Two heat lamps keeping the temp around 100 degrees in the hottest spots, but they seem to like hanging out on the periphery where it is a bit cooler.

Real excited about how this hatch has gone.

looks like this little zipping chick has a small cut on the top of it's comb.. right above the beak bleeding a little bit.. I'm guessing cut by the shell only part-way zipped. you can do it little lady!!

the initial pip was at 4am / 13hrs ago. I can see bits of shell have fallen inside, and I'm worried they will cut her more around the face/eyes
parts of the inner membrane are starting to dry out near the initial pip location, but the outer membrane is still white and I think she looks wet. 65% H

it is hard when it feels like they are in distress, but you just have to tell yourself they can do it....arghhh!! *going to clean something*

has she started chipping around the shell? could it be that she just has a little blood from inside the shell on her comb area?

candled the remaining ameraucana eggs 3 are internally pipped the other 3 are dead...."Early bird" that hatched in the night last night is doing great! I've been super busy unable to get pictures posted...I have 3 araucana's, 4 blue orpingtons, 1 lavender orpington and Early bird in the brooder...the araucana's are already a week old! trying their wings!

my Frizzle eggs are developing....these eggs are the first we are incubating from chickens we hatched...it's very exciting...due to hatch 1-4-2014
