November Hatch-a-long...

I have a candling addiction so, I am intrigued to report that I candled last night, day 5, and there are clearly two yolks, 2 embryos starting and 2 seperate sets of veining. Idk if I am worried or excited. Don't really want to continue them if they are most likely to die
Go through with it, they are already alive so if you quit on them they already will die. Give them a fighting chance now that they have started to develop

:yesss: I agree with this! They're already living and if you stop now they die, continuing would mean they'll actually get a chance at life. You got this!

Oh I am now. I guess the possibility of twins didn't enter my mind. I won't set another double after this but yup I will keep them going and be on watch the day or two before hatch, hopefully watching and can assist if need be. Ugh now I'm worried. But it will be a good teaching/learning thing so :)

I'm stressed to the max over mine, but I'm sure people can talk me through trying to help them if I need to. I'm keeping both or one depending how many make it out

eggs arrived and sitting pointy end down till tomorrow when i turn the incubator on. The farm I bought these from breed for egg color and these are some of the darkest FBCM eggs I've ever seen for this time of year. let's see, that would put lock down on the 5th and the 8th will be 21 days

@Compost King how long do you collect eggs for before setting?
I start collecting for the next hatch 10 day into the hatch I am on. Rarely do the early collected eggs actually make it to the incubator because I usually end up with double the amount of eggs I have the capacity for and I weed out the bad eggs which for the most part are the old eggs in the collection. A few malformed or awkward sized eggs get rejected too. With a few exceptions (like breeds I want to hatch as many as possible of) my eggs are usually a week old or less when I incubate them.

I set 9 or 10 eggs this morning. I’ll count later today. I threw two more in 4 hours after I set them, and I really can’t remember how many.

I’ve got a 6 month old Delaware cockerel that I know is fertilizing the new layers but so far is not fertilizing any of my older layers.

I’ve got a mystery layer that just started laying after a molt, I can’t tell who, so I’m assuming her three eggs are not fertilized, but haven’t cracked any to see.

I set 7 (I think) eggs from my Robust White specialty broilers from Moyers. One or two of those eggs may be a little small, so fingers crossed for at least a couple of babies. :fl:fl:fl
