November Hatch-a-long...

Pics
This is my first hatch too. Candling on Friday - day 7. How easy was it to tell which were duds and which weren't?
It will be easier for you to know if they are duds or not if you wait till day 7 thru 10. I just did my first hatch and they all hatched on Halloween. I couldn't see anything up until day 7 and on my darker eggs I couldn't see anything until day 10.

It all depends what color your eggs are. The lighter they are the better to see them. The darker the egg, the harder time you will have seeing anything especially if you are doing your first hatch.

This is what one of my cream eggs looked like on day 13.

I found the chooks love styrofoam ,so I like to keep it away from them as much as I can .guess if it is under the bedding they will never know .
chooks man
You are right, mine love styrofoam, they are a whole lot yesterday but still ok today, apparently didn't hurt them. I searched and we do not have rice husk in our country for sale in large quantities. I may need to go to a rice factory... I definitely need some insulation from the cement as the temperature drops close to 5C in the barn where the brooder boxes are now.

My ducks ate fanfold insulation the other day :barnie

:loveLockdown day here! Just candled. Didn’t candle this late last batch for fear of screwing up my first incubator hatch. So...HOW COOL TO SEE THE MOVEMENT IN THE AIRCELLS! Seriously like a kindergartener over here lmao. Like when that first seed in the egg carton pokes a little green leaf theough the soil! Nature always awes me! <3

Well...17 eggs set 25 days ago. Including the twins. 17 eggs in lockdown tonight with only 2 giving me any reason to wonder if they are ok. Simply because they are so full I cannot tell if moving but as of 2 days ago they were. So time to sit and wait...
