ME TOO That brahma chick is so, so cute. I hatched a couple of Brahmas this summer for a friend and they were the most ADORABLE chicks.

Yes, mine are pretty tiny. But, I always feel like I forget how little day old chicks are, EVERY time I have them around. Mine are probably just "small" and not "tiny".

The black one has feathered feet too. It black jersey giant and Cochin mix.

I'm going to keep some from this hatch and not the other one. I think I got more of a variety in this one.

I have lots of cream and pink egg layers so I really don't even know what's going to pop out of these eggs. I only put one red sex link egg this time because I have about 15 of those from last hatch.

I had a really gorgeous egg basket last year with just a few birds. Some of the prettiest eggs were total jerk birds, so I rehomed them. This year, my leg bars I added in the SPRING still aren't laying, so I imagine I'll be waiting until January for them. My one marans that is laying is hatchery stock, so her eggs are very light. Every other marans Ive hatched has either turned out to be a boy, or was randomly taken by a hawk. It looks like I added ten tan layers, too, so right now I have a pretty pale basket. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wanted to add some green and blue egg layers in the spring, but I'll see if these chicks are pullets or not. I'd rather not get chicks in the spring because I have to wait until fall until they lay, if I keep some from these hatches they will lay in the spring.

Im glad I went to check the babies just now, my second hatch was stuck. I have one of the original brines heat plates I use in my first out of the incubator brooder, and the chick must have gone to lay down and its just the size it got underneath the legs.

I righted it, removed the plate and put a heat lamp on, and gave it a few drops of Nutri drench. at first it was a little wobbly, but I think it will be fine...

So out of the 10 eggs that we had that made it to lockdown, 8 of them have hatched!

1 is externally pipped so hopefully when we come home from family dinner it will be hatched. I think that one of them is a quitter, maybe I'm wrong.

I definitely can say that I will be dry hatching from now on because the results were so much better!

6 have feathered feet! My friend calls them fancy shmamcy chicks I hope that most are pullets I'll give them to Sid so he has his own girls because he did not father any of these chicks.

Today is day 19 for the paint Silkie eggs. I just locked down, a day late. All looks relatively fine. Chicks might be on the small’ish side, so I think out hatch might run a day or so late. I’ve decided to do a few things differently for hatch this time:

I’m not going to raise humidity until after the first external pip. I’ve also decided to hatch upright— I’ve done this before with fine results.
