Now That The Molt Is Mostly Over...PIC HEAVY!

Most are looking really good, even if they haven't gotten back to full weight yet. Some are finally coming back into lay, too. Some of these desperately need toenail trims, but DH has a pinched nerve in his neck and I can't do it by myself so if you see long nails on some of them, I apologize. This isn't everyone in the main flock, but it's most of them.

Blue girls! Nora the Ameraucana, Alice the blue Rock, and last, Alice's sis, Neela, who is still very thin, but feathered.

More Ameraucanas, Gypsy who is over 4 yrs old and Snow, who is going on 4.

The group-you can see the Tiny Terrorist in the background of the second one. She's getting her tail back after her molt, which made her grumpier than usual (scary thought, isn't it??).

Thanks! Finally, we got some of the toenails trimmed, plus Isaac's spurs shortened as well as some "Zane Maintenance" so his spurs, which tend to grow curved forward/upward, probably from his laying down position, don't grow back into his legs or feet. Being crippled, he can't do many things for himself, like dustbathe, scratch to trim nails, keep his beak trimmed short, etc. Looking back at the pics, I see a couple more girls who could use some toenail shortening in addition to the four or five we did today.

I am quite partial to the blues, deco. I have blue Rocks, Orps and Ameraucanas. Welcome to BYC!

I had not idea you are supposed to trim their nails. Guess it's good I don't have any chickens yet!

I try to make sure the roosters' toenails are not sharp so they don't rip up the hens' sides when the girls don't have enough feathering for protection, like during their molts.
