Now what?! Wild birds stuck in netting

You didn't mention anything about raccoons.:lol:
No, it wont keep raccoons out. It only just keeps rats out. If properly put up so far it's kept foxes out for those people I know who have tried it. It does keep birds out thought without the risk of them getting caught in the mesh
Here’s my thinking, (please correct me if needed) Racoons are mainly nocturnal, and my chickens are in main coop at night. The coop is nothing but wood and hardwire mesh, bolt locks on the door. Motion lights sporadically placed, and I’ve got a camera and monitor inside the coop. During the day while my chickens are in the yard, I’ve got another camera and monitor there, hardwire mesh 7-8ft tall walls, and my coon hound. No he’s not IN their yard but in the backyard the chicken yard is in. I consider him a hopeful alert system, not a “I totally rely on my dog”. Short of having armed guards out there, I don’t know what else to do. But please please feel free to give suggestions.

The irony of that 'deer netting' is it doesn't keep deer out either... even at 7'. 🤣
Deer!! I have a love/hate relationship with those suckers. In the fall and winter watching a buck is beautiful, in the spring the mama and babies are adorable. But deer are spiteful buttheads. The eat everything in my garden. “Oh plant tomatoes deer hate them” yes they do hate them, because the deer picks off every tomato chews them a bit a spits them out! I covered my garden with fencing, they just trampled it. Not to mention the deer upset my dog, and the neighbors donkey. But yeah they’re pretty.

Not sure if this has been suggested, before we redid our coop, we tied that flashy bird ribbon to our hoop coop. It did seem to help
It may help with the baby cardinals, I’ll try it. But absolutely will not do ANYTHING for crows. Crows are way too smart and dedicated. Just an fyi. Fake snake, CDs, lights, even a scarecrow the crows perch on them.
