Here’s my thinking, (please correct me if needed) Racoons are mainly nocturnal, and my chickens are in main coop at night. The coop is nothing but wood and hardwire mesh, bolt locks on the door. Motion lights sporadically placed, and I’ve got a camera and monitor inside the coop. During the day while my chickens are in the yard, I’ve got another camera and monitor there, hardwire mesh 7-8ft tall walls, and my coon hound. No he’s not IN their yard but in the backyard the chicken yard is in. I consider him a hopeful alert system, not a “I totally rely on my dog”. Short of having armed guards out there, I don’t know what else to do. But please please feel free to give suggestions. You didn't mention anything about raccoons.
No, it wont keep raccoons out. It only just keeps rats out. If properly put up so far it's kept foxes out for those people I know who have tried it. It does keep birds out thought without the risk of them getting caught in the mesh
