Numi

So...this happened today.... 20220513_203619.jpg
Almost 90° out and the jumbos are all walking around panting. It would be cruel to lock anyone up in a coop. She's out there on the chair waiting to be brought in. Little does she know she's sleeping in the coop tonight. The nightlight I planned to use quit working so he's gone to get a new one. She's used to eating and drinking when she comes in so it'd be cruel to toss her into darkness.

Was it Numi that slept in the coop last night? How did it go?

Yes, Little Miss slept in the coop last night. Lol..I said "night light"..he comes home w/an LED lantern bright enough to guide in a plane during dense fog- and made Numi shadows look like GIANT guineas. It took awhile to get her to stop panting and staring at the wall after I shut it off. I left a small flashlight instead.
I keep their supplies in 2 resin deck boxes in there, & that's where we sit when I've taken her out. She kept going back to the one box rather than the roost so I left one of her fleece blankets & she settled onto it for the night.
She was up eating and drinking from her new dispensers this a.m. for the 1st time when I went out, then off to wander w/Brodie. So survived night #1.:highfive:

Congrats - Numi is getting so big! A hen you think? So did Numi spend the night alone in her new coop, or with the other guineas in their coop?

I've not seen any eggs laid as of yet, but she's been 2 syllable come back! for some time.
She slept in her own coop- when I peeked in last night she was on the roost. She's made nice w/Brodie but still goes up on her toes as if ready to fight the other 2 - then runs to hide behind me :plbb .
Plus,Mama's got a nest in their coop & I noticed Brodie slept in the run last night, so I think he got the boot. I thought abt putting him in w/Numi - I mean, they spend all day together, so I'm not preventing anything at this rate. Lol- he has roosters beat- sun hasn't risen yet and I hear him out there now.
- but the little ones will be here in a cpl of weeks so it seems a bad idea to let him take dominance in their coop. As hot as it's getting already, it won't be long before they're ready to move in.
🤷‍♀️ I know, this is going all bassackwards. I'm just trying to get what I can done before I go have surgery on hands & hoping proposed 6-8 wk recovery is an exaggeration so I can get back to it.

When is your surgery? Wishing you speedy healing!

24th. Not a huge deal, carpal tunnel. But it's been pushed out from the lock down and back log so I got 1st available & doing both at once. Then the 1st available wanted to push it back again bc he's going on vacation. :smack I told him to have a lovely time..but I'd be there so they'd better find someone. Worked out to my advantage, feel better w/opt 2.

Finally remembered to take phone out for photo. The shed dimensions are 8x12.5 - EXTERIOR. Important point when planning to put 2 4' storage boxes on back wall. Works out as they are, as she likes to keep an eye on things.

We put it on a concrete pad, replaced fine mesh screen in vents w/hardcloth bc the mesh severely limited airflow. The windows slide up and down so it was easy to cover those w/hardcloth as well.
The dinky fan is ok for now but think I'll be getting a full size box fan before long. Do others just put the fan on the floor or mount them? In the other coop the only option is to mount given space constraints, but it's solid wood. I'm a bit leary regarding weight tolerance of resin. I know the snow load on the roof is 23#.
Wondering how others place a fan.I could put it up on a shelf but concerned they'd knock it over & get hurt. If I put it on the floor it seems like it would create a dust storm. I could hang it from the girder like a ceiling fan depending on wt. Issues.
A fan is a must - it was 100° inside a few days ago. He's to frame a screen wall/door so I can leave the exterior doors open.
