No, so far it's been holding steady at 78%. I pulled back the heavy shelf liner and it made all the difference! Before I lockdown my next batch, I'll probably cut some wire or something to fit over it.

Do you think so? I need mine up and it won't go past 65% with vent half open. I'm scared! Grist time hatching. I have duck eggs inYou should be fine at 65% for hatch. The humidity will go up on its own when the hatchlings arrive because they are so wet. You want to avoid having the humidity so high that the condensation drips on the eggs.

I did have another thermometer in and both humidity and temperature were just about right. This was about a week ago. I did just out tiny cup with wet sponge in. You really think I'm ok to open vent all the way or should I wait until they start hatching? Thank you!! I'm on day 25.Vent should be fully open. I leave mine open all the way, all the time.
If you have both troughs full, humidity is good, whatever the reading is. It might be reading wrong. Just check and make sure the lid is sealing properly, and try to relax!![]()

I want to open it all the way I have read that to if I do the humidity drops to the 50's. I do have thermometer since they have popped yet would it be OK to put it in and check to see if it's correct?Personally, yes I do think opening the vent completely is best. Why? I can't really answer, because I've never closed mine. I read some studies years ago about the importance of ventilation and circulation, so I've always left all of mine wide open - Styros, Brinseas, and my Nurture Right. I never plug any vents. So I can't say I'm right, just what works for me.

You can do whatever makes you comfortable! Do you have anything covering the plastic grate on the bottom? I use rubber shelf liner and I found that different weaves affected my humidity reading. But I still had great hatches either way, so I feel like with both troughs full of water, you will be fine. Don't fret so much over what the meter says, just keep it full of water (for the final 3 days).
