Nutri Drench vs Rooster Booster (Vitamins & Electrolytes w/Lacto Bacillus

I've used Nutri-Drench for years. I use it for my newly hatched chicks, usually the 1st week of life, sometimes two weeks if they show signs of struggling.
I also use it full strength on chicks that show signs of a balance problem. I think that the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in the Nutri-Drench replaces those essential nutrients that have been missing from the chicks system, since the first embryonic stage of life in the egg, due to those essential nutrients for whatever reason were missing from the ovum during assembly.
I have never used Rooster Booster, so I have no say as to the effectiveness of that product. Wrong or right, the name alone has kept me from using it, I figured with that name it was for Roosters, that it would enhance the performance of roosters? :lau
I knew it was just electrolytes and probiotics but the name.... just couldn't get passed it.

If I have chicks that need electrolytes, I use Pedialyte. It isn't very often that it is needed. I have had a few chicks that showed symptoms of heat stroke, I removed them from the brooder, they cooled down and with the electrolytes, it helped them to recover.
I'll add that while they have the Nutri-Drench in their waterer, they also have a waterer with plain water that they can drink from in the brooder, so it's a free choice setup.

No dd, I don't use Polyvisol. I tried it once with a chick that had wry neck but it didn't help and infact have used every remedy for wry neck that has been thought of...to no avail...maybe was just my luck, Idk? I have read where some peeps claim it cured the wry neck in their chicken, so until it cures one of mine, I'll be skeptical.

I don't keep any of these on my shelf at home, and wonder about the actual active shelf life of any of these products. Storing vitamins doesn't improve them!
I will use an additive with new shipped chicks if they aren't looking good, otherwise plain water is best.
Do you all check the mill date on each bag of food? Are you having issues with the base diet offered?
Once, I had one chick out of about fifty with wry neck; on necropsy it was vitamin E deficiency. One chick! Genetically needing more than anyone else? Sad, but not actually a diet issue. Maybe supplements would have saved her life, if started early on, but not later, and she wouldn't have been good in the breeding pool either.

Sean do you ever use the Polyvisol infant drops for struggling chicks?

IMO... the the PVS is WAY over recommended and should be noted it is meant IF you already have it on hand due to having children in your house... not for people to go out searching for it and pay too much... or as an alternative if you can't find the others.

Yes, I have seen that too... ONLY in Silkies so far. :hmm (verified by hatch analysis)

I DO check my mill dates. And I store my feed in air tight containers in mild temperatures. :thumbsup

Hi, that's a great question. :thumbsup

One thing is that nutri drench doesn't have electrolytes or probiotics.

What it does have is vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

While I don't have much issue with probiotics... I won't supplement electrolytes in birds that haven't just been shipped, off water, or had diarrhea for a period of time. I just don't think they need it if they aren't dehydrated... and I figure there are easy ways of getting probiotics in.

I used to use the nutri drench for chicks I hatched myself... but found it extended the lives of those who were not able to digest or connect with food correctly... and so they would start dying off after I switched to regular water... usually one waterer full. Felt like a waste of feed, nutri drench, and energy on my part... so I no longer use it for fresh home hatches. Just good ol' plain water! And my chicks are just as awesome. :love Before I had nutri drench, I tried another liquid vitamin for small birds from the pet department... and it was actually pretty good.

I bought rooster booster poultry cell... just this week. I'm going to supplement my Silkies with it... as I am getting poor hatches and a splay leg per hatch... despite the fact that I use 20% protein feed (sometimes higher), don't diminish with treats, and do treats like meal worms or eggs when I do (or even fermented feed breakfast). All indicators are riboflavin deficit... While I don't see how... maybe it is a breed specific thing and they somehow aren't processing or absorbing as well or just need more... and guess what... if I'm feeding MY own eggs... that won't help fix a deficit. :he

I tried to look at the nutritional analysis on the product you are talking about... but not even on their own website. :hmm Even though most others' details are available on Amazon. This is what I found...

Question: what are the ingredients ? why not a photo of the other side of the container?
Answer: By synj on January 30, 2018Potassium, Vitamin A, Vitamin D-3, Vitamin E, Thiamine, Folic Acid, Riboflavin

I suspect it inaccurate since it doesn't have any probiotics there... so looking deeper, I was able to find a pic of the back label posted in a review, on Amazon BUT it wouldn't let me copy & paste and my other efforts were thwarted, but you can see it easily there... ARE dried probiotics still considered "live" or active?!

I feel like maybe they have different purposes and uses and so maybe one will be better in certain situations than others. But yes I agree that nutri drench *may* not be the BEST product on the market and MORE research is needed... by consumers. :pop
