Heritage turkey poults:
@myfivegirls , will you have poults at chickenstock? I want to try to raise 2 for fall processing. I don't want to overdo it. I might grab some homesteaders too. I'm not positive yet. How much for poults? Do you think adding two to my group of chicks for brooding is ok? I can keep them separately eventually but brooding space is limited.

I hope / plan to; though I just candled the first turkey eggs I set on 3/12. Maybe they're still too early to check for development, but all I saw was clear eggs!

I have two new jakes - dominant one's a pure Narrigansett ("Jefferson") & 2nd jake, a Bourbon Red ; 3 hens, not related to the toms - Narri/Bourbon mixes (F1 "mom" & her daughters)
I've seen the Bourbon do his "deed" with one of the hens, but they're both still under 1 yr old, so I'm hoping they'll get the eggs fertile soon! Then, with this cold, several eggs have frozen.
But, as long as they're fertile by mid/end of April, I should have poults by Chickenstock. Last year, my one tom did a great job with two hens, and he was under a year too.
Not sure why these jakes haven't figured it out yet!
The poults are $12 each. And I brooded most of the turkeys with chicks last year, and they did fine. Once they were feathered out & quite bigger than the chicks, I did separate them, just to have more space & continue them on the higher protein feed.

Yes, I should have Catskill Homesteaders there too.

Hopefully it's too early for veins. I will update you if things change, but right now put me down for 4-6 poults. If I succeed in raising them here I'll be buying poults every April or May to process in the fall/winter. I don't want them year round, but love the idea of turkey in the freezer. Thanks!

Chicken girl 15.... Chickenman0722 is my son :) would we be able to pick up the silver laced pullet at chickenstock??? If so how much?
Also if anyone has Blue laced red Wyandotte hens (for my other son) , white cochin hens (for my daughter) , I wouldn't mind grabbing some silver phoenix chicks if anyone has them available.

yes you may and $15 sound fair? She needs a home with other SLW. She is pretty but sticks out in my crowd.

I was looking over the document at the beginning, does anyone have any new stock to sell? I don't want to walk away from Chickenstock empty handed!!!

Pyxis, what are you charging for your Ayam Cemanis? Are the roosters friendly, generally? Or are they a more difficult bird? With 5 kids (some small) I can only keep the nicest roosters now.

Hi there! The roosters are friendly, I've never had trouble with them. My eight year old cousins go in with them and aren't bothered. Eggs are $12 and chick prices vary - culls are of course cheaper than breeding stock.

$12 each or $12 a dozen?
I don't think I'd need breeding stock, I didn't plan on breeding ACs! I'd hoped for some nice Marans, or some BLR Wyandotte - but I can't go all spring without new chicks!!

$12 each for eggs :) Cull chicks are $10 each, I may have some at chickenstock time.
