It was so nice meeting all of you today! My DD and I had a great time. I made it home with no new chicks, but sent an email to a friend saying I would take a couple she was holding for me. That doesn't count, does it? Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. We were happy to make some new friends. (Requested recipes to follow soon.)

We had such a great time today! I love seeing everyone... Thanks for another great one Chickengirl!

Oh and I think that we are going to go with naming my little girl... "Lucy Goosie" but we aren't 100% yet, but it seems to be sticking....and YES we stopped at the dollar store to pick up a packed to diapers so that she could sit on my lap for the drive home. We tried to make it home with her in the crate, but she wasn't having it so I opened the door to put my hand on her and she jumped out. Once I put her on my lap she settled right down and made the rest of the trip with no issues.

I love Lucy!! I was hoping you'd go for that name!!! Congratulations on your lap/house goose!!

Thank you for hosting ChickeGirl! Your kids were great - they were so polite and helpful!

I did not come home with fewer birds, but they are all settled in for the night! My oldest kid was so excited about the Ayam Cemanis! She's been asking for some for a while.

I had a great time and I'd love to have a fall chickenstock!

I am sooo glad there were no "extra goslings" there yesterday! I totally would have gotten myself in trouble. Love the name Lucy! I mentioned a book about house geese - I actually own a copy, lol.

If you want to borrow it, pm me your address & I'll drop it in the mail to you. I know I'm a bad influence but I'm just as much of a terror to myself - I messaged a guy about an emu today, lol.

Here's the first requested recipe, for all the mint lovers!

Fresh Mint Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. white whole wheat flour
3/4 c. all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 c. dark chocolate chips, (I use Ghiradelli 60% Cacao, coarsely chopped)
1/4 c. fresh mint leaves, chopped

Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and beat until smooth. Combine flour, salt, and soda; add to wet ingredients. Stir just to combine. Fold in chocolate and mint until just combined. Put dough in refrigerator to stiffen up, if necessary. Roll dough into 1 1/2 Tablespoon sized balls. Place 1 1/2 in. apart on parchment paper. Bake each sheet for 10-12 minutes. Remove on pan and cool on wire rack Yield: 2 dozen cookies

This is my potluck-sized recipe, where I have worked out the proportions to where I like them. It's essentially a triple-batch of the original, if you want to scale it back for your family.
Donna's Broccoli Salad
14 c. broccoli, cut into bite-sized pieces*
2 c. raisins
2 c. roasted and salted sunflower seed meats
1 c. sweet red onion, diced
1 lb. bacon
2 c. mayonnaise
3/4 c. white sugar
2 T. vinegar

Cut bacon into small pieces. Cook in skillet over medium heat until brown. Drain and set aside.

Combine broccoli, raisins, sunflower seeds, onion & most of the bacon, reserving a few pieces for garnish. Cover & put in refrigerator overnight or several hours before serving. This softens the broccoli and blends the flavors.

In a small bowl, stir together the mayo, sugar & vinegar. (The sugar will not all dissolve.) Two hours before serving, add the dressing to the broccoli mixture. It will be thick at first, but will thin during the 2 hours. Add reserved bacon for garnish just before serving.

*A plastic produce bag full of broccoli crowns is about 14 c. when trimmed. I keep meaning to note the weight, but once again I forgot. Take the time to cut the broccoli into small pieces. It's kind of tedious, but makes the salad so much more pleasant to eat.
