NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all. I heard chirping from the incubator as I was adding some water to it this morning so I am hoping for some zips and pips today along with some hatching. It is mothers day tomorrow so that would be a nice gift! My broody silkie is sitting tight on her eggs so they should be hatching soon as well.

Woke up to discover that no one had locked up the cheeps last night. My silkies have an enclosed run so thats not so bad. The run on the big coop was open, however, and the girls were out in the yard. They were all dusting in the area where I put the babies so I just move the fence to the closed position for now. The good thing is nobody got eaten or any attempt made by any critter so thats a relief.

The roof is finally done on the new coop and dh and dd will be working on the siding today. I am hoping they are able to get quite a bit done but with all the angles to cut, it can take time. We really need to get done. The terrorists downstairs are cramped in their box and need space. I have to make some feeders and waterers as well. .

Off to work today for more fun and games. Enjoy the nice weather everyone!

these just went in the oven with the "from scratch" baked beans and pork roast for dinner. can't wait to try them..I usually make drop biscuits with lard. I love new recipes though!
So how did they turn out? When I made them I didn't use a cookie cutter. I just patted the dough out into a rectangle and cut that into squares with a knife. I also cut the salt in half. I think they would be great for strawberry shortcakes. I love cooking and trying out new recipes. Especially when trying to do new things with things from my garden.

I have a little black silkie cockerel if anyone wants him. The only thing I can see about him is that he has one toe that kinda is close to the next toe. Otherwise he is ok.
He is small, would make a good 4H showbird.

I wish I knew what my silkies were, I would take him. I know I'm definitely going to want a roo at some point but I obviously don't want to take any more on if I don't even know what I have myself yet. I have two whites. How old is he? I wonder how much longer it will be before some one can tell me what mine are.

7 months old. I could sex them at around 4 months. The girls get a more rounded head feathering, the boys not so much, with longer feathers sticking out. Also, if you can readily see their combs, they are probably boys.
