NY chicken lover!!!!

Lynzi---definately a boy. Congrats...you have a couple! Please post pics of your new roo when you get him. Your coop should hold up if you painted it well. I suppose you could put something over it if you felt you needed to.

LOL thanks! Lets just hope the two Roos together get along well. They should, mine has never shown any kind of aggression and like I've mentioned before he is the straggler of the group. So maybe this will be good for him. I do want to adjust the roof a little on this coop but yes, it had two coats of sealant on it, the water just beads right off. I was worried about shingles being too heavy on it but I may put those aluminum pieces on it that they use for roofing on some structures. Still looking around at coops too. I really wish there was a chicken coop store rather than having to purchase online. I'd like to see this stuff in person before buying it. LOL

that water was fresh 1/2 hour before the pic was taken. It takes them 10 minutes to muddy up water. Ducks are messy creatures!

Mine wait around the edge of their pool for me to finish filling it, and then all plunge in and crud it up within minutes.

Love the coloring on these boys. I have to say after all this talk about hens vs roos - this is why I will never be able to tell - look at the comb on your first roo and now look at the comb on my hen...Where on earth did this thing come from! LOL If it weren't for her lacking a "tail"/saddle feathers I would never be able to tell, until of course she started laying eggs which started two weekends ago.

So as of the start of today, my son's hen "Golden Star", our BOxblack sexlink mix, was our only layer. She started laying two weeks ago up until this past weekend. She stopped Monday when I found that weird shelless egg on the ground. Her eggs were darker brown in color and small. Haven't seen an egg from her since. Well today my son checked the nestbox when we got home from school (I leave that part for him now) and we finally got another egg. No telling who it's from. the egg was a bit larger and lighter in color. Here's a pic of the 4 we now have since our new silkie layed one for us as well. Could that larger lighter brown egg be from her? Or could it be my lavender orpington? I guess I'll have to keep an eye on the orpington this weekend to see if she goes in there to lay. It came from the same nest box they all have been coming from.

This baby is going to live with Java Girl. I can't stand this crest!
